  1. I started this thread 4 years ago and have not been very active in TOC for a number of years due to various work commitments etc... I have not organised an event in nearly 3 years. I am also not based in the region anymore either... I think it's about time someone else took over and put themselves forward to the management to do this

  3. If you swapped ECU's whilst the battery was connected, I'm surprised only 1 fault code came up. The engine warn light flashing all the time means no faults detected. I take it by viewing these codes you have the diagnostic port bridged? When fitting the induction kit was it fitted pre or post AFM? How many of the sensors were disturbed? My guess on this is the AFM and/or Oxy Sensor as when these go wrong error codes are seldom displayed. Also check the O2 sensor on the exhaust. May as well check the leads & dizzy too, because these may have been knocked.
  4. There are 3 shades of red used on the MK1 3E5 is only one of them - although the most common. Your vin has the paintcode in it and your owners manual should show you how to find it
  5. Having driven all marques of MR2 on road and track, the MKII is probably the worst for the rear to step out. TDF's (taiwanese ditch finders = poor quality tyres) are generally the main "mechanical" reason for the rear to step out in the damp/wet. Damp conditions are far worse for mechanical grip than outright wet. And obviously if there's been deisel or oil dropped on the surface, it's not going to have helped. Driver error/cackyness is the next big reason for the rear to step out. Someone mentioned lift-off-oversteer - This manovre is usually done on purpose in a bid to reduce understeer or to encourage oversteer by a BIG lift from WOT. In damp/wet road conditions, lifting obviously doesn't help because of weight transfer & what little traction may be left etc... You really shouldn't be practicing the technique on the road (wet or dry), it usually ends in tears Also for what it's worth - I have seen more FF cars stuffed into pit/tyre walls due to poor lift-off oversteer attempts than MR cars Being smooth/gentle with the steering will help, quick movements will just cause it to be worse/step out further. Get some decent tyres on the car - Goodyear F1 or Toyo Proxes - avoid the TDF's (Nankang, Falken, Kumho etc)

Whilst the venue was fun in comparison to what we've had before, It doesn't compare to anything like Oulton, Cadwell, Anglesey or Donington, but then again those circuits aren't really suited to sprinting. It's also a pity Curborough could be shut down soon as that would be ace for future rounds (next year).
  7. Just caught sight of this thread... Had a brilliant day I think I was smiling/laughing all the way round every lap :D I finally beat my fiance as she was overdriving the car a bit early on... I finished 2nd in class and 21 overall out of 44 - not bad for a poorly MK1 MR2 me thinks B) Jo (Fiance) won fastest female too B)

Join us for a weekend away to Cadwell Park racing circuit, Near Louth, Lincolnshire. Activities Saturday 9th February Activity day, Louth Depending on interest, we could start the day in Skeggy for Laser quest, and then head over to the activity centre for an afternoon (3 hours worth) of general shenanigans, or we could go straight for a full day of activities (5 hours). An example: 1 hour skid pan (in their cars!) 1 hour rallying 1 hour archery circa £100 - £150 per person depending on number of people coming to play (based on groups of 4 sharing each activity). Choices include: Microlite, Rally, Skid pan, HGV driving, Bedford MJ (ex army lorries), 4x4 offroading, Double decker driving, Reverse steer autotest, Archery, Fire Engine driving, Clay pidgeon shoot, 4x4 competition ride, off road madness, blindfold autotest, bulldozer, 360 track digger, air rifle shooting. There is interest for microlighting if anyone else fancies it ;) (it's a bit pricer - but deffo worth it!)   14. Such a shame .. Nice Car !!!! I may aswell keep it locked away LOL !!! Please follow board T&C's before advertising (even inadvertently) your goods. BTW, to correct Leeky, the original black 1a (early spec) is worth a tad more than most MK1's there are only 4 known originals to still be on the road in the UK. But do not take this as it will earn you money if you were to sell. You will need to provide proof of originallity in the form of the VIN number for a value to be agreed. As far as worth goes I have recently taken ownership of an even rarer Champagne coloured MK1 - only 1 other (poss 2) known to still be on the road in the UK. I only paid what was left on tax on it (£60.00). It's currently being stripped, caged, seated, harnessed up and re-sprayed (different colour) as our new track car. Many people think we are mad destroying such a rare car... A value of the car is as much as someone is prepared to pay.
  15. The MK1 MR2 standard wheel sizes are as follows Rim size: 14” PCD: 4x100 Offset: 35 -> 38 Centre bore: 54.1 Rim width were 6j on early "triangle" rims and 6.5j on the later peper pot. Tyre size on the 14's were 185/60/14 If upgrading to 15's you'll be fine on 6.5j with a 195/50/15 tyre. You will need to keep the same PCD and match the centre bore with a spiggot ring if oversized. Our SC runs roadster alloys which have an offset of 40 and you can feel the car tramline somewhat on motorways. But you get used to it. I wouldn't go with an offset less than 35 though as the tyre/rim will start rubbing. Also, I wouldn't go bigger than a 15 as you start to seriously compromise the handling.
  16. We are one of the lucky onces to have a slippy diff on our SC B) It really does make a nice difference when getting the rear end out on track B) After market LSD's are available from places like Quaife, but expect to re-mortgage your house for one
  17. As said it's an absolutely awesome track B) Some may remember it from 5th gear where they used the Club Circuit. Although we will be using the Full Circuit which includes the Woodlands section. It's often refered to as "The Mini Nurburg".

  20. In three years and 10 000 track miles in my MK1, I have only had to empty my can once in that time - and it's not a large can. I also run a clear hose between the can and the trottle body so I can see How much oil in the vapour is still traveling through. And the is still some. I have seen some people use the little pipercross vent filter thingy's on the "output" of the can and plug up the PCV port on the throttle body / inlet manifold which obviously prevents any vapour or fluid making it's way back into the induction system. But then why bother with the catch can in the first place? Just disconnect the PCV hose from cam covers and fit the vent filter thingy directly to the cam cover and plug up the inlet manifold / throttle body... I think the gases must play a role in the running of the engine as it's not just Toyota who use PCV hoses between the cam covers and induction inlets. I have seen them on Hondas, Fords, Vauxhalls, Rovers, Mitsi and even more exotic metal like Ferrari and Noble - none of which have oil catch cans as standard to my knowledge. In the MR2 race series - the engines must remain standard and oil catch cans are prohibited. The engines don't suffer performance losses or problems as a result. Makes you think ;) I only use the catch can as I was getting tired of cleaning the air filter (attached directly to the trottle body) every month due to oil residue working it's way past the throttle butterfly on nestling nicely onto the gauze.

    Sorry I've missed this thread... I've not read all posts here, but sugest you get your butt over to www.mr2mk1club.com - there is no place offering a single source of info as contained on their site. The site is currently messy and difficult to navigate, but has been redesigned and will be launching soon. The MK1 Club also has a quarterly members magazine that goes out. MR2 Only is also good for bedtime reading (I contribute to both). I wouldn't let the layout put you off being MR. My first car was a Corolla Sprinter (known in the UK as a AE86) which is now seen as an icon in the drift scene. I got used to RWD whilst still being a learner and have never felt comfortable in something FWD. The MK1 MR2 never had ABS - it's not needed IMO. Just make sure the brakes are fully serviced and you use decent pads suitable for how you use the car. Also make sure you have fairly decent rubber on the wheels that won't provoke premature locking up or the back end to step out. Insurance isn't a killer - I pay less than £160 fully comp on my track car with all mods declared and a total of 9 points between myself and partner - it's on a classic limited mile policy. Our Supercharger costs us a little more than £350 fully comp. The show car is currently on "laid-up cover which costs less than £80 a year - it only comes out in summer for shows. But as a first car with no insurance history - expect to pay what youre mates will pay on a small hatch back. Any other questions - give us a yell
  22. No offense, but I wouldn't take much tech advise from the OC... I have read so much tripe on there recently it's unbelievable! The imoc knowledgebase is far superior amongst it's members. Catch cans, to my knowledge weren't installed as OEM by Toyota on the Rev3+ 3S engines... I know, I had one. Secondly, the oil vapours circulating through the PCV hose is so minor no differences will be made to performance. The only benifits of a catch can is to prevent actual oil circulating back into the engine via the induction system. Not really a problem on road cars, but on track cars where the engine is constantly run at very high rpm and exposed to extreme g-forces a catch can can help. You will not do your engine any harm by fitting one, but your pocket will just feel uneccessarily lighter if your car is used predominantly on the road Oh - and the cheapo ebay items are useless and vent nearly as much oil/vapours as without ;)
  23. Saturday driving is now full up. Still places for Sunday driving We're also looking in to another activity for the weekend... Looking at doing a horse trek into the snowdon mountains with a pub stop for lunch along the way for sunday.... so if any of you fancy that, keeps your eyes peeled as spaces are likely to be limited.
