It is a really long story. First engine makine the same sound. Relpaced main bearings, lifters, timing chain,injectors... same noise. Replaced the engine. It worked like a charm for a few days, than it would make the same noise in random. I mean one day it would make the noise, the next one not and work like a charm. Thats why I asked about the injector voltage, because for me that is not normal.
Hello. I have a toyota rav4, 2ad-ftv 2007, 2.2 l diesel engine. I have a problem with the noise of my rav. I don’t know how to describe it. It is like a diesel knock. Mechanics here are really incopetent, they have no idea ehat it might be wrong. Since i have spent a lot of money on changing parts, i started doing things my way. I used a voltmeter to check for the voltage that my injectiors were getting and it shows 4.06 volts with engine off but ignition on. I have searched everywhere that the injectors should recive 12 volts. Is it true? Does it mean tha i have a problem with my wires/ecu/edu? Thanks. Endri
Hello. I recently changed the engine to my 2.2l 2007 rav4 2AD-FTV. It works great. No codes. I tried to code the injectors but it doesn't allow me. The guy that sold me the engine cant tell me what year is the new engine (injectors included) and we can't find the VIN number of the old vehicle. All we know about the new engine is : 2AD- 2.2l engine. and it does not have a fifth injector for EGR. The old injectors 30 digit code started with 32 if i am correct, but the new one stars with 51 (ex 51ECEF00F6EAF6.....ect) I double checked the code and I can say I am not making any kind of mistake. We did not change the ECU/ECM. Anyone that can help me identify these kind of injectors what generations are ect. Do I need to update ECU/ECM? Thank you.
Hello. After 2 years in pain with my RAV4, i finally replaced the engine and it works like a charm. I have a 2007 2.2l toyota rav4. The engine it had was 2AD-FTV 2007. I made a full replacement of the engine with a 2009 type. After installit it works great. No trouble codes,no smoke. The mechanic told me that the new engine (it came with injectors and fuel pump) works great and the injectors or the pump don't need to be coded to the ECM. Is it true? Or do i need to code the fuel pump and the injectors. Thanks in advance
Hello Anchorman. Thank you for all the advice that you have provided us here. I really need your help as an experienced mechanic.
I own a 2007 Rav4. 2.2 l diesel engine. 2AD-FTV.
It has these symptoms.
We cleaned the EGR valve and the intake manifold. The manifold had signs of oil in it. When we used a carbon cleaner for the intake valves, the mechanic told me that the turbocharger was blowing oil. Since the car was working fine,I planned to check the turbo after the vacations. I did around 200 km without any kind of problems but what I did notice was the last 100. When my RPM was around 1200-2200 and when i was driving in a mauntin road,I saw a loooot of fumes coming out from my tailpipe grey to blak (dont know if this is the correct word). Over 2200 rpm and in normal conditiones there is no smoke visible from my mirrors. I stoped the car at the hotel and after the engine was cold i checked the level of the oil and the antifrize. Oil level was ok,or slightly lower, probably less than 100 ml. But for my surprize i found oil in my antifrize reservoir. It was not a lot. Also in the cap of the reservour i found traces of milky oil (I know, probably head gasket)
My questions are:
1.Since the fumes/gases are only when turbo is suposed to work and it seems that i don't have anymore the power of the turbo when accelerating are these signs of a blown turbo?
2.is it possible that i have not a blown headgasket ,just the oil cooler mixing oil with antifrize? (A friend of mine had the same symptom once at it was its oil cooler)
I live in Albania/europe and to be honest I don't think that here we can do a compression test. Also the mechanics tends to rip off. Even if it was just the headgasket and the turbo,i would finish paying for a lot of other things.
Thank you man,for your time.
Hello. I have a Rav4 2.2 l engine 2AD 2007. 175000 km on the odometer. I live in albania/europe and the fuel here is crap. You think that you are puting diesel but insted who knows what the ******** are they puting in. Anyway I followed the steps here and decided to clean the EGR. Oh my god. It was almost blocked. Due to the sot it was left only a hole of 5 or 6 mm. While accelerating I saw a lot of smoke on my mirrors. We cleaned the Egr and removed the intake mainfold and cleaned it also. Also did a decarboniser for the intake valves. Sorry,I don't have pictures. The car works like charm now and there is no smoke from the exhoust. To dismantle the egr was preaty simple. The hole cost was 20 usd :) to dismanlte eveything. Thank you for this post guys. I also have one question. Sine the diesel here is crap, and mostly I do urban driving what other steps do ypu recommend to do to take care of my Rav. When should I change my oil? Thank you
Hello. I purchased a toyota Rav4 2007 manual, 2.2 L engine. I tried to read the manual and looked all around the web,but was not able to find what does this switch do to my Rav4. Please can you help me if you have any idea. It is the one next to the red arrow. Thanks. Endri
