  1. Thanks Guys! I fitted a new alternator last weekend, and all seems fine again now. Ref. the battery...It's a Yuasa YBX3202 (40Ah, 360A) and it looks like it's not actually that old. Whilst the installation label on the back hasn't been marked off, it shows "fitted" as "2017, 2018, 2019 or 2020" And there's a "recharge date of 01/19. I bought the car in July 2018, so I'm guessing it was fairly new then.
  2. Evening all, I'm hoping that someone may be able to help... Had an issue yesterday when starting the car. Tried to start it up, all the lights came on, but wouldn't crank over! Nothing! Thought the battery was flat (been sitting for about 2 weeks), so jump started it. Turned it over, it started, and there was a loud screeching noise, as I checked under the bonnet the noise was accompanied by the smell of burning rubber & a bit of smoke. As I went to turn it off, the engine cut out. It was only running for about 20 - 30 seconds. I called out the RAC who checked it out & turns out t
  3. Hi Ben, Thanks for your feedback. A bearing is quite possible, and would certainly fit the symptoms. Not big ends though... I've had big ends go before, on an old car I basically ran into the ground, many years ago (in the 1980's!!) when I was a lot less sensible, and the sound is definitely different. Thanks.
  4. Hi Colin, the noise seems to be there only when accelerating.
  5. Hi all, I've recently (perhaps a couple of months) noticed a slight "sort of" rumbling noise coming from the near side front when I pull away, from start up. Once I get moving it disappears and a minute or two into my journey I don't hear it again, even when stuck in the usual stop/start traffic. To be honest I've always wondered if it might have been exhaust related, but this morning however, it was quite a bit louder, certainly noticeable & now I'm certain that it isn't exhaust related, because it definitely sounded mechanical! Again though, once I was a minute or 2 into my journey, it w
  6. Sounds like it could be a starter motor problem... sometimes a very gentle tap with a hammer (on the starter motor) whilst turning the ignition over also works, or may at least confirm the problem is the starter... if it helps, some can be reconditioned, but usually it's a swap out for another one...
  7. Just bought a 2009 (59 plate) Aygo "Blue", with 54,000 miles on the clock. My first ever Toyota and the smallest car I've ever owned! ….and I've owned a few cars in my time! Aside from the reliability & MPG, part of the appeal for me was the simplicity of the car and the ability to carry out a lot of work as a DIY'er… as I actually enjoy getting my hands dirty! I'm very much looking forward to working with you all...
