  1. lad, again you are wasting your time trying to make the 1.3 cynos fast. n/a tuning costs serious money. anything you can do for cheap will not make any power. your only option really is to swap in a 5efe/5efhe or else a 4efte
  2. first of all, bigger isn't better. you cant burn more fuel unless you can get more air in there. a port or polished head might help very slightly but not enough to use bigger injectors. you will not get 150 bhp from the 4efe. its possible if you spend 10 grand maybe. your best bet for power gains is to fit the 4efte from the turbo starlet.
  3. yeah I wouldnt worry about the headwork... just the exhaust
  4. hey im in waterford too... dunmore east!. dont see why it would fail the nct unless it increased the emmissions or made it too loud. if it is pre- 1994 (i think) they only test it for emmissions on idle due to most cars of that era not having a cat standard. same could be true for noise but im not sure. im in the same boat... need to nct my sera in a week or so and it has a cat back. hope it passes
  5. you could sell me the damaged one... i have cash waiting. im in waterford. roscosera@hotmail.com
  6. u want everything from an ae111 corolla 20v, levin or trueno. mainly only available to the jdm
  7. Aye, it will. The Starlet turbo option is a factory built, proven engine that drops straight in. There are plenty of people who have gone a different route with the Sera and lived to regret it. I KNOW...... im one of them!
  8. im rosco on andrews site, needless to say there has been no word on that site either. it was kind of a rhetorical question anyway...... i knew it wouldnt be built because people talk a load of *******. its very easy to dream up a project...especially one as fancifull and far fetched as this one.
  9. well....... is this project underway yet or what?? lol
  10. everything under my bonnet is now for sale. 3sgte gen 3 with lsd gearbox. everything converted for fwd. pm for price.
  11. firewall doesnt need to be modded for either engine, but the master cylinder defo has to be relocated for the 3sgte. it does in the sera anyway. also, you may have to modify the subframe on the passenger side to accomadate the gearbox (on the 3sgte at least)
  12. Awesome thanks alot for you guys help ! I think i will put a starlet turbo engine in, it sounds like the best option. IMO you should built it up as a 1,5 Turbo! Putting out around 220-240hp should be very possible at a reasonable cost! reasonable cost? you'd have to use a bigger turbo etc. also uprate the fuel and spark system, new ecu, cost of building the engine etc.etc.... it'll cost a lot mate
  13. im convinced i can finish it now.... im just back to square one as reguards engine mounts, but i'm going to try to finish it. god damn money is the problem!!! while were on the subject dawesey, did the supercharged driveshafts fit straight into the turbo gearbox, or did you only use the outer drives or something?? cheers again for the help
  14. im in college for the week, and cant view any pictures on the college computers. yeah, the engine has already been repositioned once. it was sitting with the sump very low to the ground. then we tilted the top of the engine forewards, bringing the drives closer into line, but still at too much of an angle. heres the thing, from what i can see, the big inlet manifold will hit the master cylinder if it goes back any more. did you have this problem? and is it a big deal to relocate the master cylinder?? where the throttle body is on top of the engine will be sticking up proud of the bonnet as it is, so maybe a custom inlet manifold is the answer. i know it would cost mega money to get one fabricated..... but im handy enough at tig welding.....stainless and aluminium. could i do it myself, or is it something that should be left to the professionals??? i know the big idea is to get even distrobution of air to each port.... is this hard to achieve?? sorry if im asking you about stuff u have no experience with. myour help is greatly appreciated anyway dawesy man
  15. i know i'm almost there, thats why its killing me if theres anyway i can save the 3sgte then i will. there must be another way because that ozzie 3sgte starlet that was featured in a mag didnt have a spaceframed anything!! i dont have many pics of the swap, but heres what i have...... ....space wise it might be slightly different for yourself dawesy as youre working with a corolla chassis, but here ya go anyway... my drives are at more than a few degrees.... i would estimate 10-15 degrees which is ridiculous
  16. i posted this in the sera/starlet/paseo forum already, but maybe i would get more responses off experienced toyota heads in here!!............ hi guys. as some of yee may or may not know, the last year and a half has been spent be me trying to swap a gen 3 3sgte into my sera.it is reguarded as the holy grail in terms of sera swaps, but in reality, all is not well. the engine and box (lsd equipped) is currently located in the car using custom mounts, and the drives are hooked up to the hubs!! the car is wired up with a standalone ecu, and the linkage on the gearbox has been converted for use as a fwd. in theory, all thats left is to plumb in a radiator, plumb in the fmic, and fabricate the exhaust from the a/m downpipe back. problem is that even after 2 sets of engine mounts, the point where the drives leave the gearbox is still not opposite where the drives enter the hubs.... resulting in the driveshafts not being totally straight!!! the engine is sitting as far back in the bay as it will possibly go, so my (as far as i can see) only option is to semi-spaceframe the bulkhead, and make yet another set of mounts!! now, as a poor student, i cannot afford any more major outlay on this project. it is breaking my heart because im so close to having the worlds first and only 3sgte powered monster.... ... but being realistic, my transmssion wont last very long with an expected 300 bhp and lots of torque going to the front wheels via crooked driveshafts. so heres what im thinking.... sell the whole package, and fit a 4age based engine. 4efte is also an option, but it seems a bit too mundane to me (no offence lads) i undertand that the thousands i have spent getting the 3sgte in there will go to waste, but i think it may be time to cut my losses. my engine shop are urging me to go with a 3sge, and utilising my mbe managment system, fit a set of throttle bodies (which i already have) these guys know their stuff as they are heavily involved in building rally cars, but my concern is that the 3sge block will have the same problem as reguards positioning the engine and getting the drives straight.....after all, isnt the 3sge the same basic engine as the 'gte dimentionally speaking??? i like the idea of a 3sge on 4 throttles as i prefer n/a engines anyway, but i just want to get yeer expertise/opinions on what to do now. i would have thought that it would be easier to fit a 4agze than a 3sge considering my experience with the size of the 3s block in the sera chassis (ignoring the extra ancillaries of fitting a f/i engine instead of a n/a eg : boost pipes etc. and bear in mind that i have a standalone managment system to conroll it i have spent 8 000 euro on the swap so far, i just want to loose as little money as possible cheers rosco

  18. yes, i can confirm after buying one off ebay, that the manifold either fits the st185, or else it fits the st205......it wont fit both cos theyre different. even the shape of the ports are different *rollaboy
  19. yes it will fit on existing mounts, as has been done countless times. @by the way, as stated above, the 20v engines were only ever available in fwd....dont know who told you that, but dont listen to them!!
  20. haha, even the 17's were lost in my arches....ill need to have at least 18" for looks.
  21. thanx for the detailed reply. as i mentioned above, it IS a propper standalone system, and with my fmic, and planned water injection, i think im doing all i can to lower the intake temp.....if there are any other methods, please let me know. we only have 95 and 97 octane fuel over here, but seeing as this car will only be used weekends, im sure i could afford to use additives or order race fuel (if thats not a daft idea). oh yeah, and its not a race car or a dedicated drag car, so i wont be thrashing it for extended periods. i think you guys have more or less given me the info i was looking for, so thanx
  22. im not sure if my ecu has the capability to distibute the fuel like that tbh, but its the top mbe system so maybe i can. i dont thinkthe mapper has much 3sgte experience so your advice im sure will come in handy. maybe i would rebuild the motor at some stage, but with such a low mileage engine, i rekoned it would be a waste to rebuild it before it was fitted. to be quite honest, i think 280/300 hp in my light car will keep me satisfied for a long time to come. would 19" tyres help traction, or isit all about width and tyre choice?? i know that you run 17s dawesy.
  23. hi guys. this post might be a little premature due to the fact that i havent actually gotten the engine running yet, but hear me out anyway. i had an st205 engine fitted to my toyota sera using an mr2 turbo gearbox. its a very low mileage engine with only 18,000 miles done. its obviously got new belts, plugs, gaskets, fluids, filters etc the mods are : front mounted ic, 3" downpipe & exhaust, and it is in the process of having an mbe engine managment sustem fitted. my next 2 mods planned are boost controller, and aquamist. i know my car will probably already be on the limit, in terms of how much torque the front tyres will handle, but im curious to know how far i could push the standard engine seeing as i have invested in an expensive management system. as far as i can gather from reading threads, around 300 bhp at 1.1 bar is the limit on the standard engine with standard turbo. does my engine management allow me to run more boost with a different turbo??? when does the standard fuel system start to struggle?? how much boost can standard pistons take?? despite how this may look, im not actually caught up in hp figures, or into boasting down the pub..... ...id just like to know how much i could wring out of it if i wanted. i would really prefer not to have to get the whole thing rebuilt, because its getting too expensive, but would you guys reccomend to get a hybrid turbo or something to make the most of the mods i already have?? reguards, rosco
  24. as outlined above, gt seats are crap. recaro or similar are the way to go
