  4. I have a 2000 Corolla e110 hatchback and it has a huge dent in the door which can’t be repaired. The car has a few other bumps and scratches but I’d like to spend some money on it to get it looking nice again as the car is a great runner. Unfortunately I don’t know the first thing about getting a door replaced although I’ve enquired at an online ‘breakers’ but they gave me quotes for just the shell or something like that. Can I just get the door shell and use all the stuff from the old door or does it not work like that? The current door works fine although the window sticks a bit sometimes when opening and closing. Anyone got experience of changing a car door?

  6. I'm pretty sure it was idling at around 900rpm and I was giving it any gas. Someone actually told me not to rev it if the car is not moving as it can flood the engine. Not sure how true that is. Could you recommend a smart charger? I don't really have a clue what I'm looking for. Also, can I remove the battery to charge it as I would struggle getting a power lead to where my car is parked? Good to know and could well be the issue here. Thanks, I'll do this. Thanks for all your other advice too, I realise I've got a lot to learn. 🙂
  7. I'm guessing low battery voltage wouldn't cause the engine to drop revs while running though would it?
  8. Thanks Tony, my concern is that if I jump start the engine and let it run ,while there is a fault light on, will this not be bad for the engine?
  9. Hi all, I was given a car last year by a friend and I was taking lessons but with the 'rona pandemic I've had test after test cancelled so I haven't got my license yet. It's been a bit of a nightmare really. Anyway, I have a 2000 Corolla 1.4 hatchback and as it wasn't getting any use during the lockdowns, I was letting the car run for 20 minutes (to keep charge in the battery) every week just parked up outside my house. Fast forward to about a month ago and the engine started dropping revs and felt as though it was on the verge of stalling; up until then it was running great. Then a couple of weeks ago a check engine light was illuminated on the dashboard so I did a bit of research and found that you can check what is causing the check engine light to come on with an OBD2 reader. I borrowed a code reader from someone at work and when I went to check my car last night, she was completely dead. So my question is, what should I do next? Do I need a new battery or can I charge it up? Can I jump start it to charge the battery? Cheers, Tom.
  10. Hi thanks for replying. I'm going to give my friend a call and see if they can give me details on the car's last service and hopefully that will give me a better idea. I've actually just bought the Haynes manual but I don't have anywhere to work on the car at the moment. I just got the manual to give me a bit of a better understanding but it all looks a bit alien to me at the minute 😂 There's nobody else in the house who has a license so I'm relying on friends to give it a quick drive at the moment but even that is difficult with the restrictions due to the pandemic. I have been letting the engine run for 15 minutes once a week to keep the battery charged so at least there's that. I've got my test on New Years eve so hopefully I'll pass and it won't get to a point where my brakes will seize up but I will try to get a friend to sit in with me while I drive it to get things moving.   11. Just got given my first car from a friend and I thought they had given me all the service history but unfortunately, it only seems to be the history from 2000-2005. The car is MOTd until the beginning of next September but as I haven't passed my driving test yet, my car is sat there on the street and I'm a little concerned that bits and bobs may seize up. My question is, without knowing the exact service history on the car, should I be putting the car in for a service before I drive it or with it having an MOT until September, should I assume it will be ok for now. Sorry for the newbie question but I have zero mechanical knowledge. Thanks all, Tom.

  13. Hi all, I recently acquire a 2000 Corolla but it only came with one key. I'd like to get a second key cut but not sure what the best way to go about this is. Is going to the local Toyota dealer the best option?
  14. Thanks Bernard, its MOT'd until next September and I've they've given me all the invoices of any work that's been done on the car. As it's my first car, I'll probably have it in for a full service before I do any significant driving in it.
