  1. it's sensitive, when the car is lifted about 5-10cm, the tilt alarm will be activated.
  2. Totally agree with Tony. My one was stolen in 2019 from our drive when I was watching TV in the front sitting room. After the car was repaired, asked the dealer to fit a Catloc and a tilt alarm for me (total costs £300). Recently the thieves attempted my car again, this time they didn't touch the Cat and only left some minor damage to the driver side jack point. I think it's worth to fit a Catloc and a tilt alarm (costs extra £50).
  3. Someone mentioned before, for Auris hybrid 2017-, there is no engine oil maintenance reset, I never had the "service light on" for my 2017 auris hybrid.
  4. Hi Dean, is your Toyota's Techstream diagnostic compatible with Windows 10? or it only works with windows 7?
  5. After service i was told to bring the car back to re test in a week with 500 miles driving, actually it took me a couple of month to have 500 miles during the lockdown, if your hybrid battery is charging, you will be fine after 500 miles. you said you changed a new battery, so it's quite possibly due to the battery disconnection caused the issue as i did.
  6. my car failed due to a fault code (possibly caused by 12 v battery disconnection), was re checked after 500 miles and then the test passed.
  7. when my car was approaching the end of 5 years manufacture warranty, I was thinking to carry on the service at the Toyota dealership to get the relax warranty, but completely changed my mind after I did the oil change myself on April. I can't believe it, when I opened the plastic cover under engine, immediately noticed the oil leaking around the sump plug and filter housing tabs were broken off. And I thought the torque for the oil filter is 25Nm, should be fairly easy to remove, but it's not, I had no chance to loose it and had to bring my car to a local garage for help!
  8. Followed your rules, it makes the reading simple and reliable👍 I I checked the oil in numerous times on warm or cold engine, of cause, the car was parked on a level surface (driveway), the engine oil was definitely overfilled, I don't know if the amount of overfilled oil would harm the engine or not. I recently changed the engine oil myself, and found the oil filter was over-tightened and the housing tabs were broken by the dealer tech and surprisingly the oil sump plug was under-tightened, caused slow oil leak! over the passed 4 years my car was serviced at the local dealer garage, I always thought the dealer would do the proper job for their customers!
  9. For those who is looking for car battery charger, the Lidl Ultimate Speed Car Battery Charger is available now for £13.99, ebay price is ~£25-£30, everyone said it's a good battery charger, so it will be gone soon.
  10. the conditions of your RAV4 are quite similar to my 2017 Auris Hybrid, even though the mileage of my car is much lower than yours, and if you remove the wheels, you will see more rust behind, it's impossible to keep the car rust free if the car was parked outside and was driven in wet weather🙂
  11. I agree, no rust at all under the body, absolutely amazing👍! seems to me it's impossible, Mooly, can you tell us your secret?😄
  12. Toyota sat nav is just not good, couldn't see any improvement after each update at all, never use it now, Goole map or Waze is match better.
  13. Hi All, thank you very much, all of your comments and advice really helps me, although there were different opinions about the torque wrench for DIY service, I do appreciate all of the points you guys made to me👍
  14. Thanks Stephen, without a torque wrench, I always feel the bolt or nut is not tightened enough😜
  15. I contacted the Toyota dealership for the battery issue about a year ago, they said it was £125 including the labour, not sure if it's the original one or different one.
  16. Hi I am looking for torque wrench for general DIY car service (engine oil, filter change, wheels and brakes et al), currently I got a set of 1/2" drive sockets, but found the torque settings on most of the 1/2" wrench are 28Nm-210Nm, which may only be used for wheel locknuts. I found the Draper 78641 BTW 3/8" Square Drive Torque Wrench 20-110Nm just covers the torque range I want, unfortunately it's 3/8" drive, i don't know if it's ok to use it with a step-up adapter for my current 1/2" socket set, or it's better to get another set of 3/8" sockets? another question is, for my purpose, I will mostly use the torque settings very close to the max and min of this torque wrench, is it safe? as I worry the errors could be bigger, do I actually need 2 torque wrenches for my job? any comments or advice would be very appreciated.
  17. thanks Mike, that's main point.
  18. I agree with you Stivino , but I don't think by doing the service they have done all for the M.O.T., if you take your car to any garage to have a full service or plus, they won't give you a free MOT certificate, you still need to pay for the MOT, maybe with a reduced price.
  19. Thanks Tony for your comments, yes, your are right, the MOT price at my local garage is £45, and other garages even only charge £35 for MOT, but I can't trust them, I think it's a good choice to take the 2-year service plan.
  20. My car's fifth year service and MOT are due on March, called the Hills of Woodford Toyota to book the service date, they told me if I take a 2-year service plan which costs £190+£340, they can give me 2 years free MOTs, so I can save about £110, it sounds a good deal for me, isn't?
  21. I had my car serviced at a local Jemca Enfild this year, and found their service was so bad, and people there was helpless. and will never use Jemca again. I used to have my car service at the Hills of Woodford Toyota dealership which is 10 miles away from my house, the service there was much better than Jemca Enfield, they were very friendly when I needed help.
  22. Hi Tony, thanks for your advice, the dealer mechanics has reset the oil level for me, i have no idea how much oil he has took out, fortunately i haven't done many miles since the last service and hope nothing has happened to the throttle body or the PCV valve, do I need to check them?
  23. Update: called Toyota Jemca service department, and was asked to pop up with my car. the service adviser checked the oil level, and admitted it was overfilled but said it is ok and said just ignore it, I asked him to give me a report for what he has done and what he has said to me, he then said he was going to reset the engine oil level for me, however, after resetting, he refused to give me a paper work, having argued with him for a while, he finally agreed to print out a service report for me. I just want some evidence in the case something happens to the engine due to the oil overfilling. I have done about 1100 mile since last service on April, but most of the miles were done on motorway (~700 miles), I hope it didn't do any harm to the engine. Lesson was learnt again, you can't trust any car garage, even the main dealership, always check your car after service!!!
  24. The car is parked on the drive (level surface), I checked the oil level on numerous times recently, the oil level was always like the photos shown. i guess the back of the stick touches the wall when you take it out because the stick does goes to the engine straight, i think the reading on the back is not reliable, it was ~1cm over the Max, and must be overfilled more than 100ml. I work in the lab, and know how much of 100 ml likes like😄
  25. Hi, can anyone confirm me if the engine oil was overfilled? it seems to me it was, but i am not 100% sure as the oil level on both sides of stick is not exactly same, i checked the oil on numerous times in the morning without driving, the oil level on the front size of the stick was always over the Max, but the oil on the back side of the stick was not clear. I used to check the engine oil after service at my local garage for my previous car, and sometimes I did find they over filled the engine oil, but i never do the check after the service at Toyota dealer garage. my car had an intermediate service on 2 April at a Toyota Jemca Centre.
