    workshop for s 12 sweet!!! yeah i fell for the four then wrapped it ...frankly there wasnt anything i could do ... and i was more stunned at the low speed at which it did let go ... im safer in a rear wheel drive... i KNOW when its gonna let go and i know what to do when it does ... tried skid training in the four and frankly im still happier with rwd.. so .. its nissan silvia rustbucket for me until the house move ,,, then im biting the bullet and getting a supra or similar...200sx has been a goal for a while as has the soarer...need to try em out 1st as the prospect of balancing 2 turbos is a little daunting .. also as i`ll be getting an older pre restrction model i`ll be needing fsh etc to make sure im getting a straightish one ... bendy engines never parmesanned my minestrone :!Removed!: got the manuals online or hard copy?... let me know how much for the hard copy i need em ... gonna finish sorting it ... gave the car to a m8 when i got the gt4 and hes not done anything ... he s going for a runabout to fit his 2nd job ...poor bugger .. ;) and yeah ... i`ll prolly lurk here as the info on the 4 is tantalising for curiosity only added you to my list ...so i think you can message me ... if not just post details here as im definately interested ... now calm down and stop ordering yacht parts B)

    well my old silvia turbo is winging its way to me ...homing instinct i reckon ... just to say bye to all of ya ... marvelous site ... excellent helpful members ..and the one meet i attended was good with lots of helpful ppl ... if i ever get a supra i`ll be back ... for now im abandoning 4wd in favour of my all time favourite tank !Removed! ... and a new 3 inch ss zorst !!! keep up the superb work guys ... evilsean ... signing out for now.... bring on the slide!!!!!!! :group-cuddles:
  3. indeed ... gen 5 ... until you sideswipe a lampost... then the tow truck looks better pop up lights nicer bonnet vents rear end is very important as this is the view most ppl will have
  4. when you roll forward is it scrape ...silent ...scrape ..silent or continuous scrape?...at really low speed? and does it go away when you steer hard left or right?...again at low rolling speed? or... stab in the dark #2 ... had the wire clip on the front caliper come loose on me ... only scraped at low speed and looked fine until i took it off...it was bent back on one end ...dodgy brake fit by garage ...replaced with new ...noise vanished also ... is it quiet noise or " holy $$$$ thats broken "
  5. 190 ... and na ... and fwd... taxi !!!! its 4wd ..or pref .rwd ... 200 + ponies or im not even opening the leaflet... turbo is expensive gravy ...but hey ... mmm ... gravy... frankly i think that toyota have joined the eco mob... more into emissions than emotions im more into emotion than emission....thats why my next car will prolly be totally impractical and scarier than a gt4 ...which ive already killed ....next!!!!.... seriously for a sec though ... this is a worrying trend with manufactures... lot of em churning out basic engined bread and butter in lobster suits if it looks like lobster ... it should BE lobster ... not fish fingers in the wrong box!!!! rant mode = off i await a thrashing ....
  6. well ... in case you didnt know ... my gt4 recently lost a fight with a lamp post over a cat result ... need new jalopy much soul searching later ..... gt4 ... nice car ...comfy... easy on the pocket ...mostly.... bugger to work on...fast ...reasonably quick ... good handling... loved it ... still VERY sore at losing it..weeps openly... but yet... i think i need more oomph... at full whack it just wasnt scary enough... not the cars fault there ...purely me... sad that it had to die at such a lowley speed and with no competition...sobs..... so i have to say i will be moving on to something classic that thrill s me enough ..unless i hit the 300zx ... services are gold and all major organs ... but a 1990 will be classic fully comp ......also the v8 fords are tempting ... only for the grunt ... would have to drive everywhere at 5 mph...eek !!..a CORNER ok ... browses auto trader..... woo... lots of cool stuff.... westfield....hmmm...been there ...too much oily hands time supra.... twin turbo ... so...that`ll be twice the cost on mods //services.... 300zx... glowing turbo...two of em 200sx....tempting...very tempting bmw...nah...just kidding...nfw... unless ... 800...mmm...nah ...nah nah nah scooby...<if my vocabulary was any smaller, it would be nearly as small as my genitals>...as with the evo...no way...i need food as well as jollies tvr... drool...and yet ...within my price...but ...any obs needing done...sell kidneys gah... where to go ...where indeed needs...60 in under 6 tops out ... not bothered rwd plz ..... meh......... me and the web need to talk tempted to get another gt4 as i now know what is what on em... but no ... too slow off the mark and too grippy...yes you CAN have too much grip answers on a postcard.....

    need to sort some kinda garage facility for next one... not having a place to work properly is the main reason i scrapped it rather than stripped it... and i`ll prob go for same again or something rwd and na...but not for a bit ...busy time coming up so no free time for petrol antics... also need to recoup financially... im more bothered about losing such a good car in such good condition to a freak accident ... and if one more person says " could be worse..." i`ll be trawling the forums as im still interested in the gt4 .... time will tell on the next one

    cars a write off ,, bounced off a roundabout avoiding cat ... crappy end ,,,,had hoped for heroic crash ...possible blood loss... disturbing lack of side impact protection ... lamp post 1 ...gt4 ...crushed ... doing 30!!!...ffs...no fair!!! saving for a new one and sulking a bit ..."£$%"£% actually sulking a lot ...might not be on for a while ... gah.... gutted... greasy road ... clipped the kerb ...semi spin ...clipped other kerb ... swung into post.. gone...all that work ...all the tests and research ...everything...and it was sooooo lame next time im running over the *******...actually no... i only ever ran over 1 cat and i was sick for a week... out of words .....

  12. thx for the info m8 ... the zorst change was in accordance with advice from the blokes at avaturbo and have yet to thoroughly read up on it although am planning to up the boost but i see i`ve got some reading to do oil debate ...gah ..well next change i`ll go for semi but i was talked into fully synthetic by yet another mech... gotta love conflicting advice although what you say does seem to make sense and the panel filter I was checking out is the k+n one ...which you can see daylight thru and dont worry about "picking" on me... I`ll take all the info I can get

  15. mildly off topic but yeah ... you wont see many 800+ bhp engines do 100k miles either
  16. bear in mind that a cone filter filtrates less and shot blasts your turbo blades with wee bits of crap that creep thru those holes.... also without a cold box and appropriate feed it will lose you power... had a long chat with bloke at avatourbo and he talked me out of the whole idea basically by pointing out that i have a cold feed on my stock box that just needs more air...widening the scoop..also he`s rolling road tested umpteen cone jobs and has yet to see one that registered significant or indeed in most cases DETECTABLE increases in power... i`ll be spending my cash on a larger bore decat zorst and manifold followed by a front mount IC ... cars a 1990 so skips the cat regs and a little bit more pressure on the turbo will not do any harm as long as the gases have a way out ...hence the zorst... if its a non turbo then yes you need some back pressure to flush the crap out and i think it helps a little with compression ...not sure on that just yet... change the cam belt and make sure they do it properly... mine was botched by previous owner and resulted in detonation and serious (38 degree serious ) ignition advancement ...so im up for a new belt and realignment of cam ...talked bloke into doing it for £150 ...originally£240 filters... if you dont know when they were last changed....change em ..its not expensive and will let you sleep better ... air filter £20 ...oil..£ 8 so its nothing really oil...think of changing to fully synthetic 5/40 or better...dont overfill...it says 4.5 litres in the book but its actually slightly less 5/40 synthetic £ 25 for 5 litres check the cv boots for splits ...and all the hose joints...use a wee mirror and a torch to see the awkward bits... when checking front cv boots rotates steering fully in both directions to stretch em ...and while you are under there check the shocks for leaks or signs of corrosion ... boots £ 12 each check the main joins on the zorst for corrosion and if a back box has been added/modified ...check carefully for any dodgy bits around the join ... back box ( non drug dealer ) £60 ... full stainless ( cat back only ) £ 200 from scorpion or custom build from my local bloke £ 120...havent seen the manifold prices yet... also make sure if you have a turbo that the inner bore of the silencer is around 3 inch....no point getting a nice 3" zorst if it gets pinched in the silencer is there? pumps... have the garage check em for output if they will do it for a decent sum ... replace em if they are down on pressure ... its an easy test...they just connect the output to a pressure meter and run it a bit... if in doubt change em...again not that expensive and well worth it ah the list goes on and on doesnt it.... condensing ... if in doubt check it out... if component is ropey ... fix it

  18. thicker oil...nope ... think about it ... prob is leaky bits....thicker oil will clog the good bits slightly ... and where will the extra pressure go?... yup ....out the nearest big hole...right ?.. and wheres that?.... answers on a postcard to " i ****** my engine and im sorry " ...sorry for the hostility really I am... but the garage should be able to sort that for you no worries and minimal cost...let the boys do their job...have fun and stay out of the hedges :D
  19. so... rolling road... paid me 75 quid ... good and bad news... good news ...no leaks and no worn bits ...bad news ...crankshaft was fitted badly on last belt change ... ignition off by 30 plus degrees... detonation ..blah blah.. dizzy spinned to compensate ...no loss of power ... emissions fine so new cam belt... prices vary from 300 squid to 140 ... im going for me nice mechanic...hes up for 150 and i trust him...also new ss zorst coming up with 3"bore and its a 1990 car so i can ditch the cat and they cant touch me..considering front mount IC...dunno...safety wise = good move ...power wise...negligible...dont need panel filter or cai ... im sorted there with cai and i dont need the turbo blades shot blasted with crap from a mesh filter..pointless upping the boost till i can sort the back pressure..ohh...also the boost was hitting 12 psi on the way home ...previously was 6-8....best i fix the cam thing before i address the zorst etc though all in all ...well worth it .. avaturbo.com before you ask ... was running 180 bhp ...then hit 204 on one run ...detonation detector thingy cuts in and screws up the boost... sorted with new cam belt and properly aligned shaft...also ...when they had turned the distributer to stop the det...it hit proper 200+ a few times ... but the valves will be off time etc...so im not cooking them... again ...worth every penny... bear in mind very few experts waste their time on websites...obviously no insult intended to our resident tech heads ... been more than helpful on several occasions and saved me a packet so far ...bows to the mighty add one final rant ... ive done this one already but i feel its itch once more.... engines...finite ...settings ...variable but optimal is finite... so how come i get so many different answers to the same question ... im not accepting the old "some mechs suxxor"... thats too easy... blame isnt my aim ... i want to know how there can be so many answers to the same question ... are we dealing with logical analysts ? or are there still spanner monkeys out there with a worn haynes manual and not much else?...wtf is going on... im getting conflicting results from 4 well respected mechs...not back street socket pirates...good ppl..no names will be harmed in the making of this post... answers on a postcard to...

    thank you kind sir... gotta say the galvanising makes a huge difference... the gt4 wasnt even on my shopping list ...i was after a supra or an rx7 or a 200 sx ...being used to turbo`d rwd i was after a bit more power than my 85 silvia ( 1.8) even considered a soarer...but ... i fancied this car since long ago on the playstation i played grand turismo .... had to do it ... happy as a pig in **** now ... and tomorrow it gets a rolling road test at avaturbo near glasgow airport ...75 quid for the run and a tweak ...then i get it down to my new found mechanic ( ah the joy of finding a tool bearing bloke who doesnt just want my wallet ) to fit whatever it takes to restore the original 201 bhp..then maybe a little more ^^

  25. mind you ... its a damn nice one !!!! gah ...what is it with mechanics.. you go to a garage ...they tell you all kinds of stuff, what to do , where to go .... then you go to a different garage for a comparison and its all " bo££oxs m8 ... you dont want to do THAT" and .. " pfft...who told you that ?" i think i`ll get a butchers bike with a basket on the fromt next time... assuming theres not too big a choice of baskets (...no m8...get the acrylic basket....)
