  1. After doing about 20 miles on the motorway I pulled up at a roundabout, when I set off I could hear a 'once per rev knock'.... I put the clutch in and when I revved the car there was no noise. you can only hear it upto 50 ish before the once per rev is so fast its just a constant noise you dont really notice. It sounds very similar to a bottom end knock (but isnt). My first thoughts are gearbox or drive shaft (although iv never heard a failing driveshaft) As usual, any opinions welcome.
  2. I'd do a good service using quality parts. toyota recommended stuff only. mine is so much nicer after plugs, g/box oil, oil and filter and airfilter. As for thr Maf, take it out and give it a good blast of electrical component cleaner.
  3. But the '15th of November' bit didn't seem odd? lol. Just a old fool who bought his old car back dragging up old posts!.... it's not a idea tho...
  4. Funny you should mention Blyton, I might just be up for that. Not in the 'Rolla obv but i'll bring the trackcar for a giggle. How much is it? Is it with Javelin?
  5. Dragging the past up.......anyone for an Xscape meet? just over 2 years late...
  6. It's hardly dear is it! What does 25k actually buy now in 'list price world' a decent spec diesel Avensis? prius? it would be great if it came in at £20k but its not likely when you're talking more than that for nearly all new hot hatches.
  7. Or unlucky, only had it a day and i've got the christmas tree lights up with an intermittent erattic idle, low compressor oil and i'm pretty sure the plugs could do with changing. Ah well, back to the garage.
  8. Well having bought my Corolla compressor in '06, selling it in '09 its now back! I traded it for an Audi A4 cabriolet, enjoyed that for a little over 2 years before getting bored of going slow and posing. So I went looking for something fun and cheap and ended up finding my actual old corolla for sale. Now it's back where it belongs! Although it's already up to its old tricks of not working properly!
  9. I had a similar experience with Direct line, a filing cabinet fell off a rented pick up truck and hit my car, it damaged the front bumper and wheel. The guy admitted full liability, he was quite happy to as he had seperate insurance throught the rental company, got all the details in the world and went on my merry way. I phoned directline, they said there should be no problems and it would be sorted within a few weeks. A week later i got my renewal through and it had gone up 500 quid, when i phoned them they said the claim was not settled and so it had to be assumed that it was going to be a claim against me. I even asked if this would be refunded once the claim was settled, they said no, but i could renew my policy again and they would take into account my no claims discount. So i told them to cancel the claim, fixed the car myself, moved to Bell insurance and saved a few quid in the process. still cost me for the repairs tho.
  10. So Corolla owners are proud of the fact they own the 34th worst vehicle for failing MOT's in Britain.........
  11. Toyota do have a replacement part which they fitted to mine as a sort of trial, it worked great but it does involve changing the ECU and part of the wiring loom as on the new down pipe the lambda sensors are located in different places, it sounds different to the original pipe but nowhere near as bad as when they took the seperator plate out.
  12. Surely it makes the topic null and void if the R5 is modded and the CTS is'nt! nearly every car could, with the money, be made faster than a CTS. Oh and your all wrong, forget fords and renault for old school kicks it has to be an OPEL MANTA GT/E coupe.
  13. Looks like it mite be next ear before i get the car, damn DVLA, only want to put the number plate on retention!!!!!!!!
  14. It's pretty unlikely the R5T would even make it to the start line, anyway, just look at it! i'd rather be beaten than have to be seen in one!
  15. It only gets cleaned when it goes into toyota for warranty work..............so........weekly....
  16. Can't see it being the engines at fault, thats the only bit that has never let me down on my corolla. Its the quality of the materials used that concerns me, if the plastics used in the cabin are anything to go by then the rest of the car must be made from baked bean tins and milk bottle tops! park a RAV4 next to a Honda CR-V and its a mystery as to why anyone would by a toyota! The company is a ticking time bomb, it can't live off its past reputation for ever! The funniest bit to me is the traction control and electric mirror buttons, they are exactly the same on my cousins old estima type thing apart from the button is for something different! i mean, come on toyota it was suppose to be your flagship hothatch! and ended up being a bit of a joke by other manufacturers standards!
  17. Whats the confusion for.......i can't think of a better way to spend £50! and it's thoughtful! our lass often has a pizza delivered and a few cans in for when i get home! what would you rather have, a crappy socket set that WILL at some point fracture your knuckles, a spoiler that LOOKS 50 quids worth OR a decent Saturday afternoon out enjoying yourself on some backroads, then get home to a doner meat pizza and a couple of cans! i'm sorry but there is no better way of spending 50 quid!
  18. fuel for 200 miles of thrashing your car to death, a pizza and a crate of ale for when you get home.
  19. Black vinyl = £200 Cleaning products = £20 Depreciation = £3000 Laughing my c@ck off at the result = priceless! save your time and money, earn more money, stop sticking things on cars and go buy something decent!
  20. Well after 3 years of owning the little monster its finally going. I've traded it in for an Audi A4 cab, bit posey i know but why the hell not! Bought it from the car shop in Doncaster, not a bad set up really, like a cross between carcraft and car people with most of the crap bit removed!, no haggling (car people), no salesmen bothering you (car people) stupid form thing to fill out when you get there (carcraft) bottom book prices on cars (car people) cars locked (car people) loads of extra services to sell you (carcraft). But overall pretty ok as far as buying a car goes. The bit i really liked is that the cars are not overly prepared before they go on sale, just washed and vacuumed out really. So if its had a careless owner any scratches, dents or worse are still there, rather than finding out later when all the cheap 'smart repairs' start looking naff! I've agreed a trade in price for mine of 7k.....sound about right?
  21. I think it is a little unwise asking the owners of a car whther they think its safe! i doubt anyone who forked out for an IQ would say 'yeh like the car but i doubt my kids would survive a crash!' I've always believed the manufacturers and Ncap claims about car safety untill i saw the smart car crash on 5th gear where it was compared to an old corsa. the smart looked fine after it got slammed into a wall where as the corsa looked a real mess, however neither car really protected its occupant, the corsa fell apart and the smart stayed rigid both of which are no good in an impact, regardless of what anyone says on here you need some way of absorbing the energy of the impact, and typically that would be done with a crumple zone...how can a car thats so short have a crumple zone....it just does'nt. As for the 9 air bags argument i thought they were to cushion the occupant and hold them in place during the accident, not as some on here seem to think stop a 3 tonne van making the IQ even more compact! unless the IQ deployes them out of the rear bumper to soften the impact......now theres a thought....... The IQ is'nt, in my opinion unsafe, far from it, just don't go thinking it will protect you like a big 5 star car would! it can't. I just want a simple yes/no system, all i want to know is 'if hit by a truck will this car save me?'
  22. I will have sold the car by the time this sodding meet happens! where and when! although i'll probably forget to turn up anyway....
  23. Thanks for the pics! i have'nt laughed so much in a long time!
