  1. Thanks guys for the advice. I think I'll go for 10W40 Semi synthetic which should be ok. 5W30 may prove to be too thin for an old engine which has done 165K.
  2. Hi guys, I have Avensis 2001 2.0 D4D (1CDFTV Engine) and need some advise on Engine Oil. I have been using 15W40 Semi synthetic so far with no issues but I was thinking of putting in 10W40 or maybe 5W30 due to better cold weather starting. 10W40 is not mentioned in manual, so is there any potential issues using this oil or shall I stick with 15W40? I have also read on the internet that 5W30 is better for fuel economy as well. Any advice/experience will be really helpful. Many Thanks.
  3. I have successfully used WD40 in the past with excellent results.
  4. Hi again, check engine light has come back again this morning. I desperately need to know the error code. Can anyone recommend code scanner as requested before. Thanks.
  5. Hi Guys, I have managed to fix the issue with ECU code reader. Coolant as it was diluted due to radiator leak (had to put some water in). I thought it could be coolant temp sensor triggering the MIL. After replacing the coolant and resetting ECU (disconnecting -ve battery terminal for 30 min), all is fine and no Check Engine light. I still need to know if someone has successfully used an ECU code reader on 2001 D4D Engine. Cheers.
  6. Thanks Steve for the link. Do you know if my car is OBDI or OBDII compliant?. Almost all of the code readers say they are for petrol car from 2001 and diesel cars from 2004. How can I find out if it'll work for my car. Many Thanks
  7. Hi guys, I have got avensis 2001 D4D (1CDFTV Engine). Check engine light comes every morning after starting. After running for about 5-10 minutes if you switch off engine and then switch it back on the light goes off and car runs fine. Any idea what's causing it. I have replaced coolant, engine oil and filter to no avail. Secondly do you guys know what the best code reader that I can buy to check the code stored in ECU. Thanks.
  8. Hi, I have got Carina E handbook if your are interested. Unfortunately my car has been scrapped so don't need it.
  9. Hi, SRS airbag light has suddenly come on this morning. It was fine last night when I parked. I have checked connectors under the front seats which appear to be ok. I have tried disconnecting -ve battery terminal for few minutes to no avail. Need to know if there is any way to reset the SRS module as I am fairly convinced it may have been caused due to some faulty connection etc. Oh by the way I was trying to program the spare remote key fob last night and tried few methods which may have caused it but not sure. Thanks
  10. Hi there, I have just bought a Toyota Avensis 2001 Hatch 2.0 D4D. Central locking is playing up a little. When the car is cold, it won't unlock any doors through Remote Fob and only unlocks driver's door when Key is used to open. I can hear the sound of unlocking from all doors but actual locks do not open. After car warms up (say after about 20-30 mins) , central locking starts to work through key and remote fob. Any ideas as to what might be causing it. I have already replaced the dome fuse which hasn't made any difference. Any ideas as to what's causing it. Many thanks.
  11. Thanks for your kind replies. I am sorry, should have put it in Avesis forum. Regards,
