  1. Hi Years ago we bought our first RAV4 Mk1 and I loved everything about it apart from it was a tad noisy inside .. when I had it in our local garage for a service and check up they did a few little things and one surprised me cheered me up as it came back so much quieter .. we could hear the music better and weren’t as aware of the road sound.. I’m sure he said it was a cheap part .. something like a steering gasket or whatever ?? Anyways our 17 yrs old RAV4 Mark 2 has started getting noisier and noisier ... any ideas what part I need fitted ?? Thank you !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  2. Hey guys . We've got an O2 registered RAV4 ( 2 door ) and I'm wondering what to have the tyre pressures set at for a road trip around Cornwall and Devon , just two adults and we well be doing around 800 miles, I'd guess . I read somewhere that you can set them lower for a softer ride ( but lower mpg ) and higher for a harder , faster ride ( better mpg ) . We'd prefer a lovely soft ride but I don't want to wear the tyres out unevenly .... Any suggestions ??

  4. Well I'd love to take the route of dodgy Internet explanation but I actually put a link to to the thread on my desktop and checked for replies every half an hour or so for a couple of hours but it suddenly came up with a reply saying something like page could not be found " or similar ... http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=global&section=login&do=process As an extra kick in the nuts there were ZERO replies from this site but thankfully MANY very helpful replies from the RavWorld forum .....
  5. I'm actually confused and angry about this situation . I started a thread a couple of nights ago asking for some urgent advice ..... instead of getting a load of helpful replies the tread was simpy deleted !!!!! What is the point of a Rav4 forum section if the thread like mine ... panicking threads - are deleted !!! I'd like an explanation as I'm flaming livid !!
  6. Last question . I've seen somewhere that if the lambda sensor is replaced when the engine is cold it can cause manifold issues !?? Anyone heard anything similar ? I could easily take it for a 15 minute burst on the bipass before I drop it off in the morning at 8.30am but if he starts the job a few hours later the engine will have cooled down again !?? Any thoughts ?? Sorry to be a worrier !!
  7. Right he's quoted £168 to supply and fit a genuine Toyota lampda sensor and £316 for two ( £20 saving on labour ). I've booked it in tomorrow morning to have ONE replaced . Thanks guys , thank you for all your continued help and reasurrance !!

  9. Thank you . I will see how much he quotes and then ask how much to have them BOTH done at the same time and save on labour .
  10. I've also read that failing to replace them can cause some kind of damage or mask damage being done to the catalytic converter .... Quote - " Note: the lower sensors do not affect the way the engine runs they are just there to monitor the function of the catalysts. The upper ones (sensor 1) provide feedback to the computer for mixture adjustment. If you are replacing the #2 sensor(s) frequently, depending on the exact trouble code, you may actually have a failing catalyst. In my cases both sensors were #2s and both failed due to an open heater circuits within the sensors themselves."
  11. Thanks guys .... Cars worry me at the best of time as I know nothing about them , that's why I got a Toyota - to avoid all the hastle !? Soooooo I'm not sure I could drive with the orange engine light on for much longer , as it is now everytime I glance across and notice it's on - I nearly get hot sweats !!
  12. Right guys that damn orange engine warning light as reappeared on the dash I've had it into the local garage again tonight and he's done another diagnostics test but didn't charge anything this time ......he's going to ring me tomorrow with an estimate for the repairs . He reckons it needs a new Lamba sensor ( one of the lower ones as the two top ones have already been replaced ) . He said that he replaced one of these sensors a few years ago and just the sensor cost about £200 although that was a genuine Toyota part but as mine is 12 years old he thinks he may be able to get a cheaper ( generic / off market ? ) sensor a lot cheaper ..... Still going to be the labour charge and vat on top though . Anybody any ideas as to what it's likely to cost us for this local garage to replace a Lamba sensor inc labour ??? Just a ball-park figure of course

  14. The airbag light stays on for about 6 seconds according to the handbook. It is longer than the others. Thank you . That's about right then , I've never noticed I before now though and our seatbelts are showing a bit of age now and are very slow to slide back into place , no idea if they can be cleaned or lubricated or something ...
  15. Well the Ravs beeen fine today . No warning lights or anything .... The bit that may have sounded confusing in the above post was simply me passing on information from the garage ( information that I clearly didn't understand ...) The red light I mentioned is at the bottom left of the dash screen and shows what looks like a ball and a person sitting down - its apparantly the indicator for possible air bag / seatbelt tensioner issues May I ask what is the point of the People who buy their own scanner and cancel the warning lights themselves ?? Arent the lights supposed to be warning of impending breakdown ?? Confused !?
  16. That's what it was a lampda sensor not a tampa sensor :) Also what is a eml ?
  17. Right .... I left it at the local garage for an hour and he ran a diagnostics check . He told me that the check suggested that there MAY be an issue with a Tampa exhaust sensor or something ... He said that there are four sensors ( which I read about online last night ) but TWO of them had been recently replaced , they are the top two sensors which are on all the time or something which is apparently a good thing . He said that the system had been reset and the orange warning light isn't showing all the time . He said that this could be a temporary fix and the warning light could well come back and if so he'd run another diagnostics check ( for free ) and find out which of the other ( lower ?) two sensors is the problem . .... Incidentally , now when I start the engine and all the warning lights come on and then go off after a few seconds ONE of them the red SRS stays ON a second or so longer than it used to . It stays on a couple of seconds longer than the others but I never noticed that before ... Any more thoughts on anything above ? Thank you !! Any further thoughts
  18. Is it worth disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds as it's supposed to reset the system and get rid of the light .... Can I get a "shock" ? Will disconnecting the battery mess up the alarm or set it off ?? Thanks you !!
  19. Hey guys , help / advice / reassurance required please . First off it's a 2002 Rav4 NRG 2 door saloon Petrol . I was driving home from work tonight ( just about 10 mile journey ) and the orange engine warning light came on I'd been driving about 10 minutes max . I drove straight to our local garage and the guy said to drop it off to them tomorrow night and they'll take a look on Wednesday - using the diagnostic computer. He said it was ok to drive it with the warning light on as it's only a ten mile (each way) journey to and from work tomorrow. Just wanted a bit of reassurance that I won't do any harm driving it tomorrow, 15 minutes each way. I have done a little online research and it seems that a common cause of the engine warning light on this model is a "loose petrol cap" so I went anf tried ours . It wasn't completley closed to the "click" but the wife says she never turns it round till it clicks anyway !? Anyways I released the cap and a great whoosh of gas vapour came out , can't say I've ever noticed that before but the garage guy said it was common. The online "fix" was to release cap , secure cap and disconnect the battery for 30 seconds to reset the car PC but when I lifted the bonnet up I couldn't even FIND the bladdy battery :) Then on closer inspection I saw it set filter back under the bodywork but I still couldn't reach the connections to disconnect it . I was looking forward to fixing something myself and saving some money ut it wasn't meant to be . Thanks for reading ! Any reassurance will be welcomed !! Thanks guys .
  20. Thanks ...it's a petrol so sounds as though the camshaft isn't a problem .The Rav was MOT'd a few days ago and the ad says its MOT runs out next May ( 28/5/15 ) . There's a full service history and it says that they welcome any inspections of whatever . The MOT apparantly states that there are no "advisories" . I'm feeling as though it's probably a good , safe buy given that it's been inspected by an MOT garage days ago and there's no advisories . Presumably if it drives like a dream and the clutch and gearbox are fine plus it runs well --- it should be fine :). ??
  21. Should it have had the " camshaft " job done at 60,000 like the Ravs Mk1 do or is it not a concern as they apparently have a chain rather than a belt ??
  22. Thanks ....I'm a Rav lover myself but I know NOTHING about cars , sadly , that's why I have to keep pestering everyone in here :( Any thoughts on the Rav I mentioned previously .... mileage 66,000 ? Should it have had the " camshaft " job done at 60,000 like the Ravs Mk1 do or is it not a concern as they apparently have a chain rather than a belt ??
  23. The high mileage Rav we were considering appears to have been sold and we now have our sights set on a 2002 NRG , one lady owner and full service history with only 66,000 miles on the clock . It's just been through an MOT and it's MOTd till 28/05/15 so it seems like a fairly safe buy . I'm useles with cars but if it's been given the OK a few days ago surely can't be too much wrong with it .... It's for sale at £3,400 and they will allow £1,200 on ours somwe will pay £2,200. Any thoughts pricewise or otherwise ?
