  1. ohhhh i really hope so i just had an engine change still got a 3sge but this one has parts hanging from it and everything i mean litterally off the wiring loom its got something with a disconnected pipe joined up and just hanging there one end connected to a phantom pipe the other end connected to nothing the black circular tube at the middle back of the engine has a pipe missing from it and now its got lovely knocking noises when i turn left or right and when i boot it about 2.5-3.5 thousand revs i lose anyone behind me quite litterally cant see them any more through the smoke its a blackish blue the cars using alot of oil aswell im hoping its either the mix or was the oil filter that was loose until yesterday all i can say is for 3.5k im begining to regret buying my j reg celica thinking about cutting my losses cost me 1.5k to buy it and drove it for 3 months then it went bang spent another 1.5k getting it fixed and its still not right :( i might post some pics up to see if anyone can identify the parts as the mechanic really doesnt seem interested
  2. what gen car?i cant say from a professional opinion but yeah id try topping up the gear box oil also have a look at your clutch it might need tightening usually just a bolt tightening but could be slipping or the thrust bearing in the clutch
  3. ok i had an engine change done to my 91 celica one taken out another engine dropped in all the ancillaries put on the new engine.the abs light stayed on and never went out after driving it for 500 miles to do the run in took it back anyways after speaking to the only mechanic there he enlightens me as to why ive had so much trouble with various issues there was a trainee there apparently the boss wanted my car to be the trainee's baby to work on?????? :( now surely there is some rule against this in the motor trade?surely they have to be qualified before they do an compleate engine change i mean WTF!!!!!the head mechanic said he hasnt done any of the work on the car himself as he was told to let the lad work on it the car runs ect but there are bolts ect missing here there and everywhere p.s thanks to all the people who helped me on the distributor threads and other threads ive asked about stuff on
  4. well its booked in for thurs hopefully they can sort out the problems the clutch feels better now ive done 400 miles to run it in a bit.40mph every where is very daunting but needs to be done.ive found out why the battery is loose aparently the origional was dead so they replaced it with another one which was smaller so that explains why its not sitting right in the holder. the exhaust is still loose tho with gasket sealer around the front pipe grrrr hope it doesnt break off and fall down the pipe it will destroy the cat.the muppets never bothered to put the proper metal gasket back on it and just fire puttied it instead.hopefully they will sort out the heater aswell as its !Removed! freezing but my main worry is the abs it takes about 10secs longer to stop now but all in all it should be ok they said they are going to put it on the computer and check whats wrong with it.so hopefully that should sort it all out
  5. thanks for the link but i think im going to take the whole car back to them and get them to sort out everything they havnt done
  6. yeah im deffinately with you on that one im guessing they got their qualifacations from a printing office in asia but ive got receipts for proof of all the work they have done. also how long before the clutch is worn in and stops feeling rough when changing gears?im thinking of giving them another shot at rectifying there mistakes(im not keen but it does need fixing)and if they still dont fix it then il try to find a way for a decent garage to fix it and then charge them for fixing there ***** ups im going to begin looking into ways of getting a proper garage to fix it and then getting them to charge them for rectafying there mistakes(which i think will be alot) :(
  7. oooo sorry the engines a 91 3s-ge with a cat exhaust
  8. hi all after a long and gruelling wait for my baby she is back from the garage with a new engine but now theres another problem when it came out of the garage it had the abs light on the dash lit up the garage said it was because they had the suspension off and it will go out when its been driven about a little its still not gone out and now it sounds like they never put the gaskets back on the exhaust when they re-attached it and just fire puttyd it instead?does anyone know what the abs light problem could be? also its eating the fuel i went through quarter of a tank only doing 40-50mph and only drove 60miles. im not to keen on taking it back to the garage as they seem like a botch operation they left wire cases off and didnt secure the battery and left the battery secure bar off when putting it back on not the one which attaches to the body but the one which attaches next to the air filter and then tightens down with a bolt hahaha they even left off the side cover for the light when they changed a light bulb an said it was never on there when i took it back but you guys seem to know what your talking about and seem more clued up so any help would be great ;)
  9. yeah i asked the mechanic to change the leads around and that but he said look no offence but i know how to do an engine change and its the wrong distributor for that engine apparently the mark on the distributor is in the wrong place for the firing order so its firing on 3 instead of 1 he's changed the leads around and its still not doing anything different i think ive found the right distributor tho as the one he has is a 19100-88363 from the origional engine ive found a 19100-88364 just waiting for the guy to get back from his yard tonight then hopefully he will have some more info on the sequence of that one fingers crossed its going to be right .i really really miss my celica bmw's are ok but just dont have that feel good feeling like you get from driving a celica :D !they feel better slide better and when i get out i always have to have a second glance its a j reg so its not new and flashy but deffinately got a decent retro feel.anyways yeah so hopefully it will be right and she can get back on the road again :( A bit pricier than a beemer when it was new I think. Probably pricier to repair now too, but, I wouldn't be without my 1991 ST183 generation 5 Convertible though. Spares are rare particularly for the convertible import. Almost to the point that whenever I see them I buy them! :censor: parts dont seem to be a problem theres just sooo many of them out there well the first engine i brought was a 3s-ge 2nd rev but im not sure which revision the second engine is that they sent out due to the first one having a snapped oil pressure valve and cracked up the inside of the engine when it must of fallen over but im guessing now its probably the same type does anyone know what type of distributor is on the 2L 91 3s-ge second gen? :(
  10. yeah i asked the mechanic to change the leads around and that but he said look no offence but i know how to do an engine change and its the wrong distributor for that engine apparently the mark on the distributor is in the wrong place for the firing order so its firing on 3 instead of 1 he's changed the leads around and its still not doing anything different i think ive found the right distributor tho as the one he has is a 19100-88363 from the origional engine ive found a 19100-88364 just waiting for the guy to get back from his yard tonight then hopefully he will have some more info on the sequence of that one fingers crossed its going to be right .i really really miss my celica bmw's are ok but just dont have that feel good feeling like you get from driving a celica :D !they feel better slide better and when i get out i always have to have a second glance its a j reg so its not new and flashy but deffinately got a decent retro feel.anyways yeah so hopefully it will be right and she can get back on the road again :(
  11. if its still happening have you tried squirting some wd40/carb cleaner on the air intake on the carb/throttle body?when mine played up it was because the flappy bit was stuck open a little by built up gunge just whip off the bit from the air filter and give her a good squirt might help the problem
  12. my 5th gen i would never be a traitor to her even tho she is costing me a fortune she sticks to the road well power bands lovely and just looks quite retro funky sleak and sexy
  13. i just brought a dvd player from ebay it works really good im not affiliated with the seller what so ever either it only cost me £106 in an auction but you can buy direct for £120 it does has a sd card slot a 4.3inch screen reversing camera output and input video output and input mic input output and 2 aux input outputs it has a 50 line resilution(can see the pic really clear) and they have freeview boxes aswell does blue tooth to your phone and you can go hands free speaking into your speakers the screen moves to about 4 setting angles its a multi regional and it plays cd-r and dvd-r ect so any downloaded films music ect will play on it even dvd's filled with like 15 albums work so space saving too its designed by mosfet and has a sharp tft touch screen and a remote its only a single din so 4.3 inch screen but will do me lovely when i get stuck in a massive traffic cue on my way to newquay in the summer and the face is detachable for security if anyone wants there link then message me and il send it over ive yet to get the freeview box to work as i live in a bad reception area but will go somewhere with better reception soon and try and get it to work ive probably missed other stuff on it but im really impressed with it for the money i paid and again i dont work for them and im not affiliated with them what so ever just thought its a bargain i could share with you guys B)
  14. hi all im a newbie i recently brought an engine as my old one blew up to a radiator leak the garage fitted everything up to it except the distributor they said it was the wrong one for that engine as the engine was firing on piston 3 instead of piston 1 ive gone out and brought another distributor but that one is wrong aswell its begining to become very expensive.i asked smr motors/mdkl motors(the guys who sold me the engine)and asked them which engine type it was they said that it was a bare block 3sge but didnt know what distributor came off it and said there was 3 types it could be but didnt know what the part codes where.i went into toyota itself and they were no use i gave them the engine code and they said they needed the chasis and registration number of the vehicle the engine came from i asked them to check which type of distributor it was as i have 2 of the three but dont know the part code of the third type and they said it could be any?so really im stuck at the moment as the car has cost me £3000 for a car, radiator, clutch and engine for a 1991 j reg celica but she will be worth it when fixed up does anyone know what the third distributor part number would be?im asking here because you guys seem to have more knowledge than toyota itself the part numbers i already have is 19100-88363 with a black badge 19100-88460 with a turquoise badge or if this isnt any help would i be able to find out anyway by using the engine code it begins with 3gs and some numbers? any help would be much appreciated ;)
