  1. Does it have to be semi-synthetic or would synthetic do the job? Oh, oil volume would be good to know too! :D
  2. As per title. Just picked up a 1.3XLi Corolla to use as a commuting hack. Its got a 4EFE engine but I dont have a handbook to know what the Toyota recommended oil weight is for it. Thought I'd ask before lobbing in the random pack of 15w40 Castrol GTX I have in the garage Not after any fancy performance enhancing gloop, just need oil thats going to give the engine adequate protection from cold and tolerate a sustained 80mph without getting too hot.
  3. Is there a supercharged variant of the AE111 or did the 4AGZE Corolla's stop with the AE101? I prefer the look of the 111, but the power of the GZE.
  4. Doing some sniffing around on these engines/cars at the moment. How reliable are the supercharger units? I know the VAG G40/60 chargers needed rebuilt every 60k and I was wondering if thats a generic supercharger thing or just their crummy chargers? I have read online the rev limit on the engine is 6400rpm, is this correct? Seems a touch low given the 4AGE of the same 20v lineage will rev to 7400-7800 and even my big old 3SGTE will touch 7200. I have read speculation that an exhaust (possibly with decat, never been very clear), intake and smaller pulley will raise the power to 200hp. Has anyone achieved this in the UK and knows if its safe to do? Is that figure achieved with fuelling tweaks or just the factory ECU and its overfuelling budget being used?
  5. Been thinking about getting a commuting car and my mate has the Corolla below. His is the 1.3, I've been thinking about the turbo diesel variety of the same age. Would be nice to know what fuel ecconomy to expect and what the towing capacity for a braked trailor is so I could maybe use it as a towing !Removed! for the celica's.
  6. Fellow owners club members car was stolen last night (14th March) in the Derbyshire area. Due to the fairly unique nature of this car it is unlikely it will be saleable in the local area therefore it will probably have to be moved to another area of the country. Red 1994 ST205 with after market front spoiler and lots of performance modifications. Only pics I have available are the lads sig: If you hear anything, hear of someone selling a similar car or are offered any performance bits for it, please either email me: mmcnab1982@hotmail.com or the owner mysticmig@hotmail.com
  7. Same here except on tother side of the MR2. Yaris looked sweet that man, was desperately trying to convince my girlfriend to plump for one of them instead of a Honda Civic for her first car!
  8. To give you an idea, to get a 12 second run in an Mr2 would probably require somewhere in the region of 400bhp, maybe more. To be competitive in top speed - you'll be needing to go faster than 180mph. All cars must be completely road legal, wth DOT approved tyres, and Tax/Ins/MOT. Alot of people take TOTB very seriously, including myself. Unless you're an absolute speed freak with good 1/4 mile experience, and the knowledge of how to keep up with the competition - It probably ain't worth entering :( ← Theres a lad I know with a rev 3 Turbo. Its got an airfilter and exhaust system and a dastek uni chip and its done a 12.xx pass at Crail on terrible Japanese tyres with standard rims etc. In a years time, I will have a car to enter. Right now I do not. ← Thats a !Removed! good time! :P ← Can only imagine how fast it would be with a good driver behind the wheel :P (so does Amran frequent these forums, I may be about to find out :D )
  9. Hmmm....clean car for crail on saturday, risk taking it out on saturday night. Duno, might pop along (might phone Rikki/Fraz first though, see if they are coming help make up my mind)

As most have said, have a good listen to the condition of the engine right now and make your descision based on that. The 3SGE and 3SGTE engines are pretty tough, mines sitting at 175,000 miles.
