  1. In February 2016, our 2004 RAV4.2 petrol had it's 1st clutch change at 139,000 miles. Three years six months later, it's on it's way out again, at only 42,000 miles. Can anyone tell me please how many miles a clutch should last for. Our RAV4 isn't worked hard and does not tow anything.
  2. Our RAV4.2 petrol 5 door XT3 has done 140,000 miles. The clutch is now showing signs of wearing out, so we need to change it soon. Has anyone an idea of the price for a new clutch and fitting for a petrol 4.2? We had a new clutch on a RAV4.1 six years ago, that was £550.
  3. Problem solved. The noise was due to a worn rear wheel hub. Replaced and now running great again. : )
  4. Is it a Des O'Conner CD? I read somewhere all Toyota cd systems are programmed to refuse these. Something about driver/passenger health and saftey.
  5. Our RAV4.2 five door petrol has aquired a terrible loud noise coming from the rear. It is best discribed as sounding like a jet engine roar. It changes pitch when cornering left. It is constant when driving. It is not wheel bearings. She is going to the docs this Friday, July 31st. Has anyone got a suggestion as to what is causing this worrying noise. Thanks, Ady.
  6. Well it reads quite grim, but at the end of the day, it's a long range weather forecast. I'm still gonna start buying bags of grit while stocks are high. No problem for our RAV, but I drive a rwd Tranny! Burrr, got the central heating on now....
  7. Hi everyone, my hairdresser has an S reg RAV4.1 Freesport 3dr. In fact, she's had it for years and years, upgrading from a Renault 5! It's only done around 60,000, sounds brand new, she still loves it. I'll get to the point now! I asked her today how her RAV was, she told me that she has a problem with the remote. I listened and said I'll give a shout out on here for some info. When she goes to open the RAV with the remote, it will refuse to unlock, so she has to open the door with key. When she starts the car up, the fault clears and from then, the fob works ok. It only happens on the first outing of the day. This happens on both of her remotes, even with new batteries fitted. The red light comes on the fob as it should, when pressing to unlock. I soppose it's transponder fault related but I don't know for sure. I would like to know what could be wrong and what is best for her to do. Any help appreciated.
  8. Well trust you lot , un I thought it was just foam until now!
  9. Hi everyone, just thought I'd share this with you all. At the moment on ebay, there's a 1:18th scale diecast RAV4.3 up for grabs. This is a stunning model, but in LHD guise. The down side....It's in China! Check out these pics.........
  10. Pictures please! Show us all your brand new RAV4 : )
  11. Sorry, but I just have to say, not a favour of run flats at all, because in reality they seem to bring on more stress. In fact, when I come across a 4.3, I always look to see if there's a spare on the rear. If it has, then I think the owner thinks like me. I understand the concept about run flats, but I don't like. Proud to show off my rear on my 4.2!
  12. As regards to the silver paint, I needed some silver for our 4.1 we use to own. Our local Mr.T was able to give us the paint code, then I went to a motor factors who where able to make me a large aerosol can. The paint was spot on shade.
  13. Haha, I can see this going on until September. Obviously we should go the Chris Evans way (with his 'car fest')', hence a RAV4 Fest South in July, then a RAV4 Fest North in August. There, sorted! And all those going from the south to the north one can go in convoy, how cool that woud be! C'mon, we've got to know how many and where from.
  14. Gosh! Thanks guys for all the nice comments, I had a lovely birthday. I've had two weeks now to come to terms with being 50, but still can't believe it, 1963 seems a long time ago! Nice to know a lot of us RAV'ers feel younger than we are! Cheers to you all, Ady
  15. I agree, This would be a good place. But is there a good hotel near by if an overnight stay is wanted?
  16. Yep, you're right Anchs, here is the Michelin tyre guide........http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/learn-share/tyre-basics/how-to-read-a-tyre-side-wall
  17. I had Dueler 687H/T's on our RAV4.1 and then on our 4.2. I had no problems with these tyres in the snow, I was quite surprised. The 687's needed changing, I now have 4 Falken Landair T110's fitted. These tyres where cheaper. They have a tread pattern simular to the 687's, but the groves are a lot more wider and deeper. The tread pattern is more 'rugged' looking, in fact they do look great. I've not had a chance yet to play in the snow to test them out, as my partner is hogging the RAV for her work, but her feedback is 'She's a dream to drive' !
  18. Ahh, a 1999 RAV4 Heat, we owned one once. (she wrote it off, I still miss it.) I used the jack mounting points as shown in the manual, as posted by MrBilly. When nearly fully extended, the jack just lifted the wheels enough to remove them. It doesn't look that safe though. Just a warning here, if your jack looks unused, then put some grease on the thread. I had a situation with the RAV jack where the thread ceased due to the winding pressure.
  19. This will wet your appetites if you've not seen it, especially if you fancy a black one. Doesn't matter that you can't tell wot the bloke says, you get some nice long shots inside and out in this review. Put on HD and enjoy!
  20. How do you get to be at a launch, can you just pop along or is it by invite as Mrs P and meself would like to see its launch, and is it at all the Toyota branches or just a select few?? Hi Paul, if you are using your local Mr.T for servicing then it's pretty likely that you'll get a mail-shot for a launch event. Their sales guys will have you in the system as well and they'll be keen to get you to trade your 4.2 against a 4.4. It isn't an elite celeb event - I've put dozens of invites in the bin just from my existing dealer & I've only been using them for 3 years or so. I get them from the local BMW dealer even though I've only ever been in there once & picked up a brochure, although I did give them my email addy. It's all about scatter gun marketing - they invite thousands to these things knowing that if they get 20% take-up, they're doing extremely well. Good info there Jim. Back in 2006 when we where looking for our 1st RAV, we had a look at two 4.2's at our local Mr.T. But the other half wanted a 4.1, but they where too old for the dealer. But we sounded interested so they took our details. A couple of times in the future we got sent a long list of 4.2's they could offer us. I have since had accessories from them for the 4.1 and 4.2 we have owned. I still get mail from them, the last was a 50 Year Anniversary invitation last September. So hopefully I might get a launch invite. Failing that, I'll drive up in our gleaming black 4.2, park right outside the showroom, and say "I like RAV4s you know.........."
  21. It's certainly worked at our Tescos. Before, you had to dodge around trolleys abandoned after use whilst walking up the walkway in the car park. When I returned my trolley to the trolley park, the trolleys where just shoved in. I sometimes had to re-arrange trolleys just to get mine and others in. Now we have to pay, it's great. Clear walkway and neatly parked trolleys. In a way, it's trolley bliss! Lorna's M&S needs to go the pay way.
  22. Is that used for scraping all the chewing gum up off the floor :) now thats what i call ground clearance AAAAGH! Why do these sort of peaple have to make high cars so low and low cars so high!
  23. I would like to be at the launch some where but only as a RAV4 fan, to see the new RAV close up and to soak in the excitement as an observer. I love RAV4s but this new 4.4 has lost me. I don't have the money for a new car, our 2004 4.2 RAV is our limit, we love it and how it looks. If I was buying brand new, I would like a Suzuki Grand Vitara 5 door. This looks a lot like the 4.2, and so looks like a propper 4x4 and not a beefed up estate car. Now I know this is just me but I like a 4x4 to look like a 4x4, (I'm not on about the Imprezas and the Pandas) there is something about having the spare on the rear that does it for me!
  24. Typical that should happen Dave, as you had parked out the way of trouble, sorry to hear about it. I dread that happening to our RAV. I always park as far away as possible from the main doors in supermarket carparks, or any other. At our local Tescos, nearly every driver rushes up to park as near to the entrance as possible, which is great cause that mostly leaves loads of free space at the bottom. But I know our RAV is still vulnerable to idiots of the like you had! I've noticed in various retail car parks I sometimes use, the cars parked out the way where I like to park look really cared for. Problem is, this time of year, more idiots and less parking spaces.
  25. That was fun! Loaded ok on my Windows 7 i3 processor desktop pc. (Virgin BB) Took just over a minute to change the RAV colour on the 3D bit. I can see where Toyota is going with this all new RAV4, I've checked out the YouTube stuff too, but I still like the look of my 4.2 better! I remember back in 2000 when the 4.2 was launched, I fell in love with it instantly. I could identify it as 'a RAV4'. But I'm struggling to like this new one. How does it effect you fellas?
