  1. Hi, I have a Haynes Manual covering the Carina E's dated 1997 in reasonable used condition i.e cover on and all pages present and not torn. I could let you have it for £5 plus p&p. Please let me know if you are interested and in which area you live so I can give you a firm price. Rgds.
  2. Hi, I have a blue 1997 Carina E 1.8 GLS for sale. It has just over 1 months MOT (18/3/2014). It is located near Basildon, Essex. Starts & runs fine - engine is sound with no noises. doesn't burn oil and has cambelt changes done. Current mileage is 150,000. Bodywork is generally good for a car of its age but has rust at bottom of both front doors. Rear exhaust box needs changing and it has an intermittent ABS fault which appears to be earth related (disappears after carwash! ). Has 1 new Injector fitted 6 months ago, all the others are original and fine. Offering it for spares or repairs.

  5. Hi - I did this repair on a corolla recently using the kit and it was hard on a nice warm day. I wouldn't want to attempt it in the open or an unheated garage in this weather. You may want to consider paying a garage to do this job if you need the car urgently.
  6. Hi - If you have a 'late' or 'facelift' carina e the relay is actually inside the switch! The problems you are experiencing are due to the circuit board inside the switch housing, which incorporates the relay going faulty. If you are good with a soldering iron then sometimes it is possible to sort this pcb/relay. Realistically it makes more sense to change the switch with one from a breakers - if you can find one. But be aware that it must be from the same year/model of carina as there were wiring differences between models. Hope this helps.
  7. Hi Guys -Just an update - the misfire finally got so bad that it occurred at idle and I was able to trace it to No.3 cylinder and the injector as suggested elsewhere in this forum. Changed No.3 injector - problem solved -at last!
  8. Hi, I'm pursuing the same problem with a 'P' reg 1800 carina 'E'. I have changed plugs, ht leads, distributor cap and fuel filter. So far it looks as if the problem is gone but we'll see. The next consideration would be injectors but these are expensive! Total cost for this sourcing ht leads and dist cap via ebay approx £100. Perhaps experienced toyota people can make other suggestions?
  9. Hi Changing the throttle cable is pretty straightforward. In answer to your second query - yes its very unusual to have to change a throttle cable on the carina 'e' as it doesn't come under much strain. Main dealers don't carry them - they have to order - BUT the price should be more like £20. A price of £70 is damn steep.
  10. Hi, In reply to the rear sensor problem. The connector for the rear sensor is inside the car under the rear seat trim. Various options depending on the model. You need to trace the lead from the wheel sensor to the rubber grommet where it enters the car. Then on the inside remove seat trim to expose the lead and continue tracing to the connector. Hope this helps.
  11. Hi Everyone, For some time I've had an abs warning light up all the time. I checked the abs fault codes and got a 35. I was told this was a front left or rear right abs sensor fault. On checking further I ascertained that the problem was actually a front RIGHT wheel sensor which was open circuit. The normal static condition is approximately a 1500 Ohm loop. I changed this sensor today and the problem is cleared - the abs light is out and the abs system works fine under heavy braking. Hope this helps some of you guys out there.
  12. Hi Captain NoJo - I had a battery go flat on my 97 carina e and after I changed it I now have an engine warning light up. Once the rain stops I'll try to reset the ecu to see what happens. I'm begining to suspect coroded earths as the source of my problems. Can anyone out there help us please? Hi Again Captain - Today (09/11/08) I checked the fault code from the acu and got a code 21 = O2 sensor, so it looks like I need to either get the sensor tested and/or buy another - I'll keep all posted - toyotaowner2 Toyotaowner2 here - I purchased a secondhand o2 sensor and fitted it today and all i
