  1. heres some pics.. you can see how small the WDTV unit really is. I cut out the back of the Nav box and made a new gear plate and rear face. i mounted the Hard drive to the gear plate and have placed it so the usb socket is accessible to add/remove songs and videos, without having to pull the drive out of the box The WDTV unit will be silicon'd or hot glued to the gear plate. I will also add an on off switch to select between 12 volts from battery(always on). and 12V accessory.
  2. i am adding a WDTV media player to my Toyota ipsum. it has the same factory stereo as the previa/estima. have a look at my other post for updates on progress. I will be using a 320gig hard drive to store all my music and videos. a much simpler and cheaper way to do things
  3. OK so ive been thinking about putting a carputor in the Ipsum for a while but the complexity of it all (and cost) was prohibitive...so heres the new plan! install a WDTV media player and 320 gig 2.5" hard drive into the factory navigation box under the seat. This will allow me to view all types of video files on the usb hard drive and listen to over 100 gigs of MP3's!! all totally stealth and totally cool! THE WDTV unit runs off 12 volts so thats a perfect match and the usb drive gets its power from the WDTV usb port. The video and audio are sent to the headunits "video input" via composite cables. Step1) Remove nav box and bridge the front right speaker wires so it works without the nav box. Step2) Perform the speed cut/handbrake wire mod so that the video screen still works when driving. step3) Remove NAV box and strip out all the electronics. then install a custom gearplate to mount the WDTV unit and the 2.5" hard drive. Also extend the IR reciever and place it up front by the stereo. i will be updating progress so those with previas/estimas and ipsums can get some inspiration! Meanwhile heres some useful links for the stereo wiring. (you'll have to put the URL's into ggogle translate to understand the text.) http://www.estima.su/2008/10/about_navi_computer_pinout/ http://www.estima.su/2008/05/toyota-touchscreen-head-unit-pinout-wiring/ http://www37.tok2.com/home/aoijf2/ipsum101.html
  4. hI rOGER YES I DID GET IT TO WORK. try the links in the post directly above. also register at the ipsum club malaysia and read this post for more links that actually work. like interfacing the factory touch screen to a PC. club home page: http://www.myipsum.net/index.php MY THREAD: http://www.myipsum.net/index.php?name=Foru...amp;p=3722#3722
  5. EDITED THE LINKS AGAIN SO THEY HOPEFULLY WORK gOOGLE TRANSLATE KEEPS OVERRIDING THE ACTUAL WEB ADRESSES AND I CAN'T COPY/PASTE THEM! AAAARRRGH! USE THE LINKS IN THE TEXT ABOVE THEY SHOULD HOPEFULLY WORK. IF NOT LOG ON TO THE IPSUM CLUB MALAYSIA AND SEE MY POST THERE.
  6. SORRY! EDITED POST ABOVE AS SOME LINKS DIDNT WORK. SHOULD BE OK NOW.PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THEY DONT IPOD YOUR FACTORY STEREO! ADD an ipod to your stereo! This uses the "AVCLAN" communications between the stereo and the navigation unit. If you google "AVC LAN ADAPTOR" you will find lots of imformation but here is a good link: http://www.softservice.com.pl/corolla/avc/ Full touch screen adaptor that allows you to interface with a car pc unit. (run windows media player or winamp!0 http://indashpc.org/new/adapters/car2pc-toy.html Hres another LAN adptor http://indashpc.org/new/adapters/car2pc-toy.html the avc lan communications also has the touchscreen imformation on it so you can control a computor via the touchscreen if you interface with it.
  7. CONNECT A PC TO YOUR NAV UNIT AND USE THE TOUCH SCREEN!!! Probably the best hack so far. Click on the lexus link about half way down the "16029 1ND 16030 NAVIGATION HACKS" that i posted above. a guy made an in car PC and then calibrated the factory touch screen to work with it. very very cool.
  8. i have beeen doing some searching on the net to find out all i can on the toyota sat nav used in previas and ipsums and heres what i came up with. This will help those tinkerers get the most from these units such as adding dvd's or sat nav into the screen and a few other tricks too. So you could possibly hook up your Nav unit to your Nav plug using the RGB input, and a dvd via the video input ,AND use the front camera, AND rear camera input also! ENJOY the links. some are in russian and japanese so put them into google translate for some great "english" captions.
