  1. saying I trawl around random forums?? B) Nope, Never, but intrigued why you are asking :) Apologies for the incinerations, didn't think Hoovie would be that common a name. Sure I've seen it couple times on Paj Forums. Probably just a coincidink
  2. Thanks very much for the birthday greetings. Has been an eventful week This emote from Stew (Local Hero) seems the most appropriate....lol
  3. @ Hoovie Did you used to be on the Pajero forum???
  4. Thanks for the explanation. Un-scientific 'suits me sir'
  5. Thanks Bothy Just that it sounded really thrashy at 4500 through the gearbox to 5th. Can you explain about the ecu flooding the engine to minimise damage, please.
  6. I gather that the VVTi is a high revving engine as today on a motorway run was revving up to 4500 rpm then changing gear. In 5th was doing 70mph @ 3200rpm. Question is at 4500 rpm (nowhere near redline) engine sounded like it was starting to scream. At what point does the VVTi max out rev-wise. How safe to take revs higher. The acceleration was very quick, for me, anyway. Normally only do around town runs, lots of stop/start and taking it steady. Will occasionally 'Thrashing' the engine give it a clear out or potentially cause problems. Hope this all makes sense

    Denso Ik20

Hi Anchs The IK20 is a Denso Iridium spark plug it's just the power version in the Denso range for the Rav4. They are cheaper than the SK20R11, supposed better performance only not as long lasting. Application list for Rav4

    Denso Ik20

I am replacing my spark plugs very soon and am considering Denso IK20 instead of the SK20R11 (long life). I intend to replace the IK20 plugs every 2nd full service. I believe leaving the plugs for the full length of time could cause potential problems of the plugs seizing in the ports and/or the plug leads fusing too tight to remove without damaging them. Anybody have any experiences with the IK20, good or bad.
  9. wants to ride the Barclaycard Rollercoaster to work

  10. Thanx for reply Ian. At least now tho whatever is supposed to live there it will be clean when it moves in.....lol
  11. Guessing by the replies to posts you aren't keen on the 5 door variants.......lol haha - not keen??? Of course not! They are a compromise on what was a great design, before some person thought of adding doors as a way of increasing the price. Ok....lol. Don't understand why they stopped making the 3 door tho, as an option. Still don't know what lives in the recess tho......
  12. Guessing by the replies to posts you aren't keen on the 5 door variants.......lol
  13. Ok! Now confused! Smilies display in some threads but not in others.
  14. Hmmmmm! Only had Rav 10 months......lol! Today decided to hoover out the boot but for once actually lifted the carpet. Underneath there is a trough with a piece of board, with3 clips on it, fixed to carpet. What does or should live there?
  15. Errmmm!! Dunno why but smilies not displaying at all. Just the box with red cross in it. Smilies are enabled in settings. However they do seem to display when posting, at least in the preview !Removed! typical seem to be working now
  16. My Rav is a non-towing vehicle. I am unclear as to when the spark plugs, gearbox (manual) oil, t/case and diffs fluids require changing. I can see that the fluids are inspected at each service but not replaced. I do approximately 6-8k miles per year. Can somebody please enlighten me. Thanx
  17. Hmmm!! Thanks. I just assumed the short journeys would kill the engine sooner. I know the fuel economy would suffer but petrol or diesel for a bigger engine??
  18. This is a question about 2.5l + engines. Will a bigger engine, namely 2.5l upwards, suffer through more stop start driving, around town. Will an engine of that size be liable to head/gasket faults moreso than a smaller engine, say up to 2l. What other potential problems are more likely under these conditions. We find ourselves in a situation where we need, not so much want, something along the lines of a Land Cruiser, Shogun. Purely for vehicle size due to disability. Most of these class of vehicles tend to have the big engines. Could petrol or diesel have any pros/cons over each other. Hope this post makes sense.
  19. sorry - couldn't resist.... might it be one of the 5 doors swinging in the wind?? Aside of that it seems a young car to have a problem. Whats the mileage? And have you read about the brake pads on these?? Thanks for reply Bothy. 50K miles. No, not read said article which one would it be please
  20. Hi. I get an occassional clunk sound on quick acceleration ie: slow down for a roundabout, see daylight, foot down go for it. The clunk is intermittent and not every time under those circumstances. The majority of the clunks appear to come from the rear and can be either nearside or offside. In minority of cases apears to come from front either nearside or offside. The sound is clearly audible. I would like to know if anybody else has experienced the same and could it be something sinister. Btw manual gearbox Thanks in advance
  21. Thanks. Job done, 3 new toyo A11 @ £98 each fitted, bargain
  22. Thanks for replies. Having only had one puncture in my driving career, and that was off roading, I figured it was a good idea. Having said that I've probably tempted fate now.........lol
  23. When buying new tyres how critical is tread pattern and depth on a 4wd Rav? Asking because I was only going to replace 3 of the road tyres with the same make etc and use the spare as the 4th. Currently the spare is brand new. The better of the 4 removed was going to be the new spare. In the event of a puncture if I used the worn spare in its place would or could this affect handling etc and could this cause any damage to 4wd system?
  24. You were by the car and saw the indicators answer back? No sorry. Was by the car, indicators did not respond at all. I was referring to the tiny led on the fob. It flashed 17 times which was around 15 seconds. Will try again standing by different areas of car Nope no joy watsoever
