    Auris D4D Advice

OMG!!! OMG!!! That really is a horror story. Were you just unlucky with that car? Surely every auris that goes over 85k won't suffer the same fate. I got side tracked in my search for a diesel and was looking at Vauxhall vectras then by chance looked at a Saab 93 which shares the same floorpan. I was offered a part ex deal I couldn't refuse and bought a vector sport 1.9 tid. I must admit I am terrified of swapping the reliability of my avensis but I have to get my fuel costs down and the saab will save me about £20 a week. The saab is not without its reported problems but the thing with the internet is that if you look for bad things you will find them. For every car that has a problem whatever the make there are hundreds more that prove to be utterly reliable even at huge mileages.

    Auris D4D Advice

Ok I know the question has probably been asked a million times but can you guys give me advice on buying an Auris diesel. I have an avensis 2.0 tourer petrol at present but my 80mile a day commute is proving expensive. Luckily living dowm in Devon means I have a traffic free blast down the A38 from the Plymouth area into Exeter everyday with the last few miles out into the surrounding country lanes. I really fancy a t180 but I've heard that they are not that economical so will take the more sensible choice and go for a tspirit d4d. What can I expect on fuel economy from one of these. Are they as relaxed to drive as an avensis and are there things that I should be aware of when buying. Ill be looking at a 2007/2008 model with 50 to 70k on the clock. Cheers
  3. The drivers side dipped beam bulb blew on me the other day and having read stuff about it being a nightmare to change i am happy to say that it was no problem whasoever. A pair of long nosed pliers and a bit of patience and job done in half an hour.

    Onboard Computer

Well fortunately the computer estimate of 290 miles is wrong. I have covered 360 miles with about 15 miles left in the tank. I havent filled up yet so I dont know if the readout will adjust itself. I suppose 34/35mpg is not too bad for such a big car. The strange thing is that economy seems better at 80/85 at just over 3000rpm rather than labouring at 70 under 3000rpm. Its almost like the engine is optomised for travelling at the higher speed.

Are you on about the petrol? I get 380 miles to a tank at worse, but that only requires 50 litres to fill back up. I've had 410 miles at best. So that varies between 35mpg and 37mpg, not that bad for a big heavy petrol car. I do about 70% motorway driving though. Started the job today. Reset the computer but still only averaged 34/35 mpg and this was at 70mph on the A38 devon expressway all the way to exeter with no town driving at all. Will post again at the end of the week to see if I get more than the estimated range.
  6. Ok what with fuel prices going through the roof and myself about to start a new job which involves a 70 mile commute I just wondered how accurate the computer on my 2.0 T4 Tourer is. I put £65 in the tank today and expected to see a range of around 350 miles on the readout. To my horror it was only reading 290 miles. I have done the work journey a few times while going for the interviews and I was getting about 35mpg average. I worked it out that at 35mpg I should be getting about 380 miles to £65. If I go by the computer it means the car is only doing 26 mpg. What is wrong here?
  7. Further to previous posts regarding recall, how long will it be before affected owners are contacted ad will they definately contact you? I was going to call them but someone said give them a chance to sort the parts etc.
  8. I have today got a parking charge notice from parking eye saying i was parked for to long in a morrisons carpark and could i give them £40. I have looked this up on the net and it appears that the advice is just ignore them and they eventually will go away. Anyone else had any experience with this apparent scam?
  9. Can anyone tell me the correct oil to use in my 2003 2.0 vvti tourer. The manual seems to indicate 5w-30w Cheers

    Tyre Advice

Beware of Budget tyres if you are keeping the car. A recent survey by Continental Tyres showed that cheap tyres took more metres to stop than theirs. Your life depends on them. Fitter I went for Khumo tyres in the end for the sake of £17 more per tyre. The alignment on the front was way out so that is now sorted but I have been told that the rear needs minor adjustment when funds allow. I could find absolutely no info on the budget tyres I was offered which is not a good sign. I get the feeling that they have bought them in bulk and are trying to shift them without much success. Good choice mate, my son has Khumo on his Audi A6 and he is very happy, he is quite a spirited driver as well.Pete. I had the same ones on my MG ZR and found them very good.

Just discovered that one of my front tyres is badly worn on the inside edge and the other will need replacing soon. I called a place I usually go to and they have suggested a budget tyre (focus unitrac 3000) at only £53 each including fitting which seems good for 215-45-17 w rated tyres. Should I go with these or stick with a midrange branded tyre instead?
