Slight Knocking Noise When Turning Off The T180? What Could It Be?

This problem only started this week, any ideas?

Mr T did an inspection report as part of another problem and noted

"exhaust center section heatshield corrorded and partially insecure"

Not sure that this would cause the knocking/ clunking sound that last a second or so after the engine has switched off . . .

Any ideas?

If you undo the nut that holds the shield on and put a repair washer either side you will fix it. Its a bit fiddly but you can do it. Try switching it off with your foot on the clutch. The gearbox is capable of knocking but it isn't life threatening.

I had a look and indeed I can see a repair washer would work well here but it's a bit too fiddly for me to undertake. I will just take it into somewhere. I think there is only one washer holding it in place now so it's moving about a lot and is in danger of falling off

May well be your dual mass flywheel starting to show signs of wear - blip the throttle in neutral with clutch pedal out and see if you hear anything as it comes back down to idle, then blip it again with clutch pedal pressed in. If you notice any difference then suspect the DMF :(

Went to Kwik Sh*ft and a very nice man fixed the problem for free.

He just jacked it up and fitted the repair washers :-)

No strange knocking noises anymore
