Toyota Roadside Assistance - change of vehicle

 Share

Just a reminder

If one has Toyota Roadside Assistance on a current vehicle, and one is looking to change to another Toyota, for the remaining balance of one's existing mermbership one can either

- get a refund, or,

- transfer the balance onto any complimentary membership for the new vehicle.

To do either of the above contact Toyota Roadside Assistance -   https://www.toyota.co.uk/caring-for-your-toyota/owners/roadside-assistance.json

I tried to do this last week, having had my old Corolla Verso written off and now purchased a C-HR. However, I was told that I could neither transfer my membership to my new car nor obtain a pro-rata refund (I pay annually in August). I asked to be called back but so far nobody has contacted me to explain. I still have Toyota Roadside assistance on another vehicle but given this poor service I feel it's unlikely that I will renew it in August.....

That's not right; I've transferred my membership between 4 cars so far and on my current one they added the complimentary 1 years RA you get to my existing automatically so I effectively had 19 months of cover!

Call them up and explain what you want to do - I've always found the RA team to be very helpful and easy to deal with over the phone; Don't wait on a call-back. Toyota and their franchises and spin-offs are generally quite poor at that - I've only ever had one agent call me back ever (Ironically a Jemca one, because Jemca are normally quite bad at any sort of customer communication). Heck, in general I seem to be the only person I know who calls back customers! I reckon the number of call-backs I've gotten, apart from people trying to sell me something or chase me up for money, I can count on most of my limbs!

Something has changed on Toyota Roadside Assistance. I have owned six Toyotas and have always transferred the remainder of the policy in the past. On 2 March 22 i received an email saying my renewal was due on 12 April and they would take the subscription by direct debit. I ordered a new C-HR in July and it finally arrived in January. 23.

In December 22 I had a breakdown( flat 12v battery) and was told my subscription had expired. They had stopped using direct debits on 1 April 22. I renewed my membership and paid a £90 callout fee. When I asked for my remaining period to be added to the new car I was told it went with the old car and could not be transferred or refunded and I would have been told this when I renewed.

I complained but got nowhere so I decided the stress of taking it further was not worthwhile. Beware, they are not the friendly group they used to be.

Yeah we discovered this change too - When I bought my Mk4, the TRA on my old car was transferred to the new car, but people that bought cars after me found that they were being refused the transfer. I don't know why they made this change, it's stupid.

If you get a new car it should still come with 1 years free TRA tho', and you can try and wheedle the dealer to add some extra since they won't transfer from old, but that's about it...

Just about to take delivery of my 3rd C-HR & the current cover is until 07/07/24 & they have confirmed that they do not credit any unused months onto the new vehicle or offer any refund for the product despite being told so by the dealership. As it's a cherished number transfer I am unable to pass on the benefits to anyone who purchases the p/ex as they can't put the new number onto the system until after it is registered by which time their system will show the new vehicle under the current registration. Answer is computer says no and the agent says I don't understand. Hmm!
