Hi,

I've seen a good few references to engines by their Toyota model numbers. Is there anywhere that I can find more details on specific model numbers, etc..?

Toyota Engine Codes

Toyota engine codes are split into two sections, the bit before the dash, and the bit after it (eg: 2JZ-GTE).

Before the dash.

The letters signify the "family" or "series" of the engine. The numbers signify a revision of the bottom end (ie: bore, stoke, block). Higher numbers don't necessarily mean a larger block.

For example, the twin turbo engines in modern Supras are the 1JZ-GTE and 2JZ-GTE. The 1JZ is a 2.5L engine, while the 2JZ is a 3.0L. Both are twin turbo inline sixes.

After the dash.

The letters after the dash specify the features of the engine.

G - Wide angle Twin Cam (sportier head)

F - Narrow angle Twin Cam (economical head)

T - Turbocharged

Z - Supercharged

E - Electronic Fuel Injection

U - Emissions control (Japanese)

C - Emissions control (Californian).

Not familier with that engine but....

2MZFE

2MZ will be the block/layout... the "Z" meaning its a Vee engine.

the F-E bit will mean that its got the narrow angle head so its more baist towards economy/smoothness as opposed to the wider angles "G" engies and E means it has EFi.

5K- 1486 c c

and eng. no. 5K 0488148

So no letters other than ' c c ' -- following the Code!! ---- Just 1486 like that's the displacement cc. :unsure: But shows as 1600 on V5C Reg. Doc. - I suspect clerical error.

With all the engine inf. you give isn't this just a wee bit unusual?
