Hi everybody , i have a yaris verso just after i bought the car the dreaded engine malfunction light came on. i got the garage where i bought the car from to diagnose the fault and they said , you need a new lambda sensor , which i had fitted at a cost of £140 ( the sensor was replaced on bank number 1) they reset the light and guess what! yep it came on again while i was on holiday so i got the local toyota garage to check the fault again and they said they

found fault code p0420 and cleaned the sensors on the airflow meter, which 99 % of the time would cure the problem but if the light came back on it would need a new airflow meter, and charged me £17.50 which was brilliant.

Driving back home the light came on again , so i booked the car into a toyota dealer near me and they diagosed the fault again charging me over a £100 ! and said you need a new cat! cost £1100!!! i took the car away from them and took it to my local independant garage who said he would fit me a cat for about £200 but first advised me to have an emission check and guess what? it passed the emission check!

so now i am totally confused and will just carry on driving the car but that light just bugs me. so to anyone whos told they need a new cat i say get a second opinion !

does anybody have any ideas about what the problem is?

many thanks
