Yaris Boot Strut Failure

Hi Everyone,

I Have recently bought a 2004 Yaris T3.

The boot struts seem to be failing. When you open the boot, you have to lift if yourself and when you close it, the boot door just slams just with no deceleration.

Ive spoken to the garage who have told me its not covered under the warrenty. Ive called CES for a quote who have told me replacements would cost £40 each!

Is there anyone out there with the same problem or someone who could help me:

  1. Find the information I need to get the right replacement
  2. Find a low cost but quality replacement
  3. Give me any further help

Thanks in advance,

Ross

Have a look online at breakers yards and what not. Perhaps they'll be able to get you the parts off a scrapped Yaris much cheaper.

Hi Fella...

I have thought of that yeah but I dont even know where to start looking, I looked online for places where I could buy them online but a) I dont really know what Im asking for and B) the places I found were all really expensive, so expensive Im not sure they were quoting for the same thing.

Im going to look tomorrow and see if I can find a part number on them or something?

Hi Siaven,

Thats a great looking site, def worth thinking about.

I managed to get the garage to pay for them so Im hoping theyll sort it.

Ive found the part etc its a Stabilus Lift-o-Mat. The part number you need is 1518QJ and the distributor is 0121 328 2472.

Thats the info I got from Stabilus. Ive given that to the garage so heres hoping....failing that Ill give GasStruts a go!

Thanks again!

Ross

Hi, Ross, Have you tried these, = http://www.cargasstruts.co.uk/toyota-yaris-door-p-788.html

They Quote £13.12 each, for your 2004 Yaris,

I have not used them personally but may be worth a try at that price, = Good Luck,

Wait, so, you have to prop it open otherwise it shuts itself? Or do you mean you need to lift it all the way to the top and it hold itself there?

Its a bit of both fella...when you press the button it wont lift at all, you have to pull it all the way and then when you want to close it you only have to touch it and it slams shut.

Mine does that too... And it's done that since I bought it almost a year ago... 55 plate. I have a friend who owns a Yaris and her boot also does the same... I had no idea it was meant to do otherwise!!
