Toyota Warranty Refusal

Hi everyone,

I have a 13 plate Avensis icon estate 2.0DM. I run this car in my taxi fleet. The car now has 87788 miles and has been mostly trouble free. At around 64000mls i had a headlight unit and at the same time that this was replaced I mentioned that the car management light had been on and off several times from 25 30000mls onwards but at the time this was actually out. I told Toyota service that it didn't go into limp mode and after a short period of time or lock and restart of the engine this would go out on its own. I thought this was teething problems and as it did not affect the cars performance I did not make too much of this. Any how they checked and said it was a problem with one injector. The said that they had cured this and should not happen again.

Last week now the cars mileage was 86600 the light returned. I booked into Toyota and they told me I had a problem and it needed 2 new injectors. They then went on to ask for my service book and receipts for the servicing as I had it serviced at a local Toyota specialists. I took this in, which they scanned and sent to Toyota. Two days later they called and said that because I didn't show on the garages receipts that genuine Toyota parts this claim would not be accepted. I'm on my own to pay for this. Is this normal? Can anyone please advise me what I can do. The garage that carries out my servicing say's that O.E parts were used and cannot understand. Have I got any rights?

Thank you for reading

European Block Exemption rules mean manufacturers can’t invalidate your new car warranty for not using a franchised dealer – as long as the garage follows the maker’s service schedule and uses original equipment parts.

However, everything must be documented for proof – even down to the grade of oil which was used - because if something goes wrong with your car, the manufacturer may claim the fault is down to a below-par service or use of non-OE parts. The onus is on the vehicle owner to maintain and keep adequate proof.
This applies to any manufacturer.

Thank you so much for your lightening speed reply. My garage assures me he can supply me with that information and proof. So I guess we will have to see what happens next.

afaik they can't refuse you for using non-oem parts either as long as the parts match or are better than the manufacturer's specification.
