2004 Celica 140 Brakes

Hi folks!

first, I just bought the lovely green Celica you can see in my gallery and so far it's the dog's danglies as far as I'm concerned!! It's a 2004, 140bhp, leather seated, middle age crisis satisfying head turner!!

Now, I have a query and would like to fall upon the experience and good natured folk here in the search for an answer.

I have noticed that the discs all around show rusty spots if I leave the car alone for even a day or so and that the pads could really use replacing as one or two of them are looking low.

Seaching various forums and part dealers I find that there seems to be two different sizes of pads for my car. Is this correct and, if so, how do I find out what size mine are short of taking a wheel off and measuring them??!!

Also, where is the best place for buying replacment pads and discs without falling prey to cheapo fakes. I'm not after race performance brakes but would like to know they are going to stop me when I ask them to!!

Thank you in advance folks!! Now....what to do about the alloy wheel problem Celicas are famous for??!!

Hello marvo,

The two different brake pads...

i think the answer you're looking for is the pre face lift model Celica had smaller diameter discs 255mm, so needs different pads.

Your model is a face-lift model [ after Sept 2002 ] which had bigger 275 diameter discs fitted standard, hence the different pads.

So your discs should be 275mm

If you want to be sure of getting good quality brake pads, try Euro Car Parts in Shrewsbury or buy on line http://www.eurocarparts.com/brake-pads

They sell Bosch, Pagid which are fine, and also Textar pads which i've not personally had experience with but read a couple of excellent reviews.

The pads i'm using are Mintex, very good too.

Regards

CW

...and the "rust spots" you speak of are absolutely normal.!...it doesn't take long for them to appear but they go as soon as you start to use the car again.

Car looks nice btw...enjoy.

ECP are fine for pads/discs etc...and Brakes International are too.!..I've used both with no problems.

As catwoman says..get the right disc/pad size for your car...which is 275mm disc.
