Verso 2.2 d4d loosing power

We bought our verso early last year and it's been working fine. Just after purchasing the car we heard horror stories about these engines blowing. The car has however been working great. That is until December time when it started loosing power. Our neighbour owns a garage and he took it in and gave it a full service. He said the filters were filthy and changed them all. That seemed to fix the problem for around 6 weeks until it started doing the same again. He's just brought it back and said the filters were dirty again so he's given them a good clean. Now I'm hoping this fixes the problem but I'm having people tell me they recon the engine could be on the way out. We really can't afford a new car right now.

Thanks for any advice.

any warning lights/have you had it code read? Could be EGR or SCV related.
