Tailgate Troubles

Hello All,

Am just wondering what happens to the tailgate when the supporting struts fail on my Corolla Lift back 1998, on the tailgate itself I mean.

Could they allow the top edge of the tailgate to come into contact with the area of bodywork , just below the roofline, just above the hinges.? Allow the tailgate to travel up too far in other words.

Or would failure mean that I would need arms of Schwarzenegger proportions to lift it myself and support it with broom handle or similar to stop it falling on mi (Yorkshire pronunciation ) `ead .

If it would not allow the former problem then me thinks that some dastardly shenanigans have befallen mi car and the tailgate has been refitted incorrectly at some point prior to my buying it.

Anybody had any experience of similar problems or indeed had any experience of removal and refitting of said tailgate?.

Cheers

Albi

no sorry dude but if they go you either need to be built like arnie and or need to carry a 'ard 'at round with you. could be wear in the hinges though. you can sometimes adjut the fit by slackening the 4 bolts that fix the door to the hinges
