Change The Front Toyota Badge

Hi my girlfriend just bought a japanese import Vitz / Yaris (2006 model) but she doesn't like the toyota Badge at the front which is different to the one we get here in europe. she really wants me to change it to the normal toyota Badge, can anyone tell me how to remove the Badge safely without any damage please?

all i no is that the Badge is stuck on same as the other Badge but has 2 pins under it so im unsure how you would remove this

have you tryed searching debadging on the forum?

Boil your kettle and leave it to cool for a couple of minutes, then pour water over the Badge area and gently pull the Badge off, this can be used on stripes you dont want and mouldings.

You sure that's not going to damage the paint? I don't know, I'm asking.

I've seen badges removed using solvents, but again you have to be sure that they won't damage the paintwork.

Also a fine thread can be used as a saw to cut into the adhesive behind the Badge - works well in conjunction with the right solvent.

Don't ask me what solvent is safe though, and whether a chemical solvent less dangerous than hot water.

Have you thought of asking a bodyshop - they must have this problem all the time. Your local Mr T may be able to advise.

get some dental floss or fishing wire and use a sawing motion, if you find it a bit difficult heat it up with a hair dryer to soften the foam tape underneath.

I don't think the pins hold it to the bonnet, I think they are there just to stop the Badge from twisting.

Only use methalated spirits (the purple coloured one) on the foam glue, this is enough to remove the glue with a lot of work without damaging the paint.

Then once the glue has been removed use some t-cut and polish over where the Badge was, this removes the dark area of paint where the sun has not faded it slightly.

And finally use some polish or wax for one final wipe.

i used hair dryer on mine to debagde the rear badges, i held the hair dryer over the Badge and then used a plastic car (top up card) and taped masking tape over the card so you wont scratch the paint, to push the Badge out, like slide the card from under the Badge while pushing it out at the same time, it may leave that annoying sticky stuff behind but giving it a little scratch off did the trick

I was gonna suggest the dental floss and/or hairdrier method too as this is the safest method I know. Before you do though, are you really sure you wanna do it as a Vitz logo'd model is a bit rarer then the Toyota. Stands out in a croud! B)

no i'm only replacing it with a normal toyota Badge which i already bought from eBay. will try to change it as soon as it arrives.

Spent a lot of time in them! Is that 'cos you keep ruining your paint? I asked my local body shop and they recon you are treading on thin ice, using nearly boiling water. If a little too hot, you may blister the paint! (Not my words but the bodyshop's)

I've spent a lot of time in bodyshops because i've worked in them,i've replaced complete front ends, rear ends, bodysides on all makes of cars including BMWs Mercs Toyotas etc etc, i am a qualified estimator on glasses and Audatex ,Keep ruining my paint? you cheeky ******, as for your local bodyshop , the last thing they want is for you to find out how to do things for yourself innit, but if you let them screw you for painting panels that dont need it then its your money and as its probably in London they're not very good are they, i've seen the people who work in them , and i've seen the crap work they do having done estimates for insurance companies to have it put right.

im with christopher water wouldnt blister your paint, and anyway you wouldnt use boiling water it would be about 50-70 degrees c by the time youd boiled the kettle and let it cool a wee bit so you dont burn yourself.

car manufacturers test their paint in extreme hot and cold conditions, putting it through hundreds of degrees for days at a time, a wee bit of warm water aint gonna melt it off unless somethings seriously wrong. although the hairdryer is still best for softening glue IMO.

i wouldve thought that the front toyota was not glued on, it was only held on by the pins. maybe it just pops out?

hi just to let you know i successfully removed the rear badges using the warm (NOT boiling) water technique. however i haven't tried the front Badge yet since the one i ordered still hasn't arrived, but as forde just said, i think the front Badge should just clip out of place with a bit of effort. anyway i'll keep you posted. thanks
