4zz-fe Engine Pinking

Hi all My wife's car is a Corolla 1.4 Vida (UK version 3 door 2000), and the engine type I believe is 4ZZ-FE. The engine has done 55K miles. The engine pinks when cold, and also when pulling up hill. Not terribly so, but it is noticeable. I changed the plugs only a few months ago (300 miles ago). Is pinking a cause for concern? Can it be adjusted fairly easily without diagnostic equipment? is there a procedure on the web anywhere? Any help appreciated Gary
