Hi all,

I am planning to drive down to the Monaco GP this year - staying in Antibes with friends and then planning to drive to Barcelona day after GP, couple of nights there and back to UK.

Has anybody get any suggestions or tips about driving? - Whats the best way to save fuel on long trips etc

Any ideas would be very much welcomed as this will be my first trip abroad in the Avensis.

Regards,

Pardeep

Hi mate,

I did drive to Poland on my Avensis(2.00 litre VVTi,semiauto) in last christmas time and the answer is.Just drive on the motorway as much as possible and in my car it was very economical when I drove about 80(at least) miles per hour with about 3000 revolution so I managed to get about 36 Mpg which was really good.If you have got cruise control you can do it.Remeber about correct pressure in tyres when you loaded.

Best

good luck

Wojciech

We have done lots of european motoring. great fun. Try and get recovery assistance either via your insurance company or AA-RAC before you set off. Cruise control is great for ease and economy of driving. Remember to rest and bring some snacks/water/hot flask inside the car.. it helps! Tyre pressures and fluid level check before you set off is a must.

Hello pards,

No tips re the driving but I can enlighten you a tad re the GP itself.

I went to Monaco back in 2005 ............ wonderful experience but very heavy on the pocket. I stayed at a hotel by the Mirabeau so had a great view of the track and the cars braking from 150 mph to 30mph to take the corner. I reckon that the prices are inflated for the GP weekend .......... coffee was 8 Euros, a can of coke 10 Euros and bottled water 12 Euros! I bought a programme from an official seller and thought it pricey at 20 Euros and then - to my delight - found other people so called 'official sellers' punching them out at 50 Euros! Enjoy yourself, it's probably a one-off experience but, if you are like me, you will now stick to Spa, Hockenhiem and Magny-Cours!
