New Rims

Hi guys wanted your advice on some new rims.

I currently have a set of TSW 17" fitted with Falken Low Profile Tyres.

I have 2 issue's:

1. The wheels are obviously too big, i think 16's would have been better. (They sometimes scrape against the arch)

2. The tyres are crap! They are very slim/skinny so they avoid contact with the arch, which is a good thing but they are crap on the road.

In the dry they are ok but in the wet/ice etc i might as well not even bother lol.

I want to get some 16's but wanted your advice as to what performance tyres i should go for. Dont want budget tyres, prepared to pay more for quality and reliability for all weather.

Please let me know

Hi

If you put low profile, wide tyres on a lightweight car you will be spreading the weight and decreasing the lb per square inch pressure of the tyre on the road... hence.. no grip when it's wet...

Look at Formula 1 tyres, the wet weather ones are much thinner, look at rally cars... snow tyres are real skinny...

So you won't get a tyre that will be good all-round, you will get a compromise but that is all, if it were me I'd have a nice wide set that look great for the summer and then stick the originals back on as soon as the gritters come out, swop over again in spring and your nice shiny wheels will stay looking great....

If not then find a good independant tyre shop and get a mid range tyre that they recommend for all year round use.

Good Luck

Pete

Thanks Pete.

I will look in to that.

In regards to wheel size. Would you go for 16's or would you stick to 17's and put on better tyres?
