Fuel Filter - 1998 Avensis - How To Replace

I've got a 1998 1.8 Avensis GS auto (7A-FE). I tried to replace the fuel filter today and although I got two spanners of the correct size (one for the nut on the filter itself and one for the nut on the pipe - at the bottom of the filter) I couldn't get them undone - and I didin't want to break anything.

Is the nut on the bottom pipe a normal thread? Am I mising something here? or do I just need to apply more brute force?

By 'a normal thread' I guess you mean right hand thread and not left. It should be just 'normal' right hand thread so you need a bit more brute force.
