Standard Fit Cd Player

Hi All

I wonder if anyone has any ideas/advice. My wife's just bought a 2000 Yaris SR following the MOT related demise of her Megane. She was all excited about having a car with a CD player, however when you put a CD in, it tries to play for a second or so then ejects and goes back to the radio. My dad, who has a 2000 Yaris CDX said his CD player sometimes plays up if the car isn't warm so we tried it after a run and it worked for about half a song then after stopping, it went back to displaying "Err" on the screen, hunting around as if trying to find the disc and eventually ejecting. Is it a common fault?

Any ideas/advice/suggestions gratefully received.

MC

My one's a right ***** to get working; The disc has to be almost completely scratchless otherwise it's a lottery whether the drive will take it or not. My brother's Corolla has the same problem too! :(

I currently have a CDR that I burned myself sitting in there and it works every time now, so I'm scared to take it out

I'd entertained getting a CD cleaner, or taking the thing apart to see if it was dusty inside or something, but because I have an XCarLink, the CD player doesn't get a lot of use anyway so I didn't want to spend any time or money on it ;)

Hi MC, your wife has the same Model and year Yaris as me. I have never had any probs with mine at all even when the car is cold so i wouldn't say it was a common fault.

You could allways fit an aftermarket cd player instead and then you won't have to fiddle with the standard thing again. ;)

Thanks for the answers chaps, as you say Raeman, she does have an aftermarket one which she didn't want to fit to her old car as she would've lost the uise of the steering wheel volume control (!!!) so we may as well give that a try. Now to investigate the engine malfunction light staying on.....

Cheers again.

Have you purchased one of the lens cleaner discs that are about?

I know that the mini stereo cd player we have in the extension gets really temperamental and wouldn't find the disc if the lens is dirty - especially on an older car, there could be a build up of grease or film on the lens within the player.

They are £4.99 on Maplin for example Link
