  2. Very very rough and dodgy area of Birmingham that is, and probably about the worst place he could have left it - right at the end of a quiet road where it would be an easy target (marked red on the photo from Google maps) Right round the corner is a car breakers yard (pic shown) - I'll bet they had something to do with it, although it could never be proven. Always park somewhere safe. Back in the 90s I used to drive into Birmingham regularly and park in the city centre - I had a my car stolen from a street similar to that where the doctor had his car stripped. The problem is that these crimes put up everyone's insurance premiums and the doctor will find his own insurance will rocket now this has happened to him.
  3. I've been looking at the Lexus 450h+ PHEV thinking perhaps that may have a better implementation of the speed limit warning but alas not. You got to disable the beeping each time you switch the car on. 🤷 Reviewer mentions it towards the end. Horrific colour btw.
  4. Anyone in the UK have a spare threaded brake caliper insert that might fit the rear caliper on my ST205 Celica GT-4? This one had a bolt break off inside it. Tried to drill it out but its stuck real good. Probably better at this point just being replaced. Tried the parts stores and Toyota but they don't assign it a parts number. I don't know if these are the same on other Celicas but I know the ST205 GT-4 uses the equivalent of Supra calipers and rotors. I would love to find a replacement insert or an old caliper I could remove one from or whatever other option y'all might have.

    Trying to locate Toyota Hilux

Hello this is a shot in the dark but I’m trying to locate my dads (Stuart smith) 1989 yellow Toyota Hilux 4x4 that he owned from new and regrettably sold a few years ago, the registration number is G744WWK, we’ve noticed it’s now sorn, and would like to try and find the owner and buy it back, please share this post to try and get it back for him, thank you in advance regards his daughter sarah smith

    Engine making noise

Lol that is actually very bad noise. It sounds to me like a broken clutch damper plate, the springs has gone. Gain access under the car , make sure car is off and there is small plastic cap on the bottom of the transmission, opposite the engine side open and see if any metal parts are laying at the bottom of he transition housing. This small inspection window is where the flywheel is.

    Nextbase Dash Cams

My Dashcam seems to be recording ok now. It maybe threw a wobbly before as I deleted some videos ? I still can't connect by phone to the cam to get into the settings though. The chap at the dealers is going to sort it out for me tomorrow. To turn down the G sensitivity and possibly the Park mode. It records anytime I go near the car or open the garage door. Is there a way of changing the settings other than connecting to a phone ?

    Nextbase Dash Cams

Yes I did as well, it needs to be flashing fast
  12. Never hit 70 mpg on any measurable trip yet, be it around town or just A roads and lanes. And I'm a very, very efficient hybrid driver in terms of rarely accelerate quickly and anticipate breaking. DOn't use eco mode though, just thee comfort one so far. Maybe it likes agreesive driving on the odd occasion I have floored it the mpg average drops markedly.
  13. No worse than other manufacturers. Parts supplies are still being affected by Covid, the situation in Ukraine (one of Europe's biggest suppliers of wiring harnesses as well as other parts), etc, etc.

Bulbs - main, dipped & half

I am happy with the brightness they deliver and what I am more about is the long life. These are by far the longest lasting bulbs of all halogen bulbs. I only drive the car at night and I drive a lot.
  15. How well does it handle traffic information in the UK? For me it was useless because that data was very inaccurate and in my area taking the wrong turn might cause you 30 minutes delay 😞 in this case Android Auto running Google maps is undefeated duo
  16. I am thinking that the symptoms may be oil on the clutch plate. If the clutch is dragging but the clutch arm seems to be moving OK then it can be oil making the clutch plate stick. If it is harder to push in gear than in neutral then I would try slipping the clutch quite hard for a few seconds and see if it improves. Don't bugger the clutch overheating it or wearing it out. Just try pushing it in and out of gear first and see if there is a difference.
  17. Question for long time owners from a new one. Is parts supply for Toyotas a particular problem (or no better/worse than other makes)? My car is a Corolla so made in the UK but, in a world economy, I doubt that helps to any great extent.
  18. Car battery fitted under rear bench seat are Twin lids so deemed to be rollproof , vented via a 5mm tube to the outside. Some are manufactured without the top up plugs.

    PHEV economy observations

The transmission has nothing to do with it. It's the ICE itself that has a Specific Fuel Consumption curve. All internal combustion engines do. Toyota's HSD gives the ECU a lot more options that's all. In a PHEV presumably it completely disassociates the ICE output from the road wheel torque so the ECU can run the ICE any way it wants regardless of what the driver is requiring from the drivetrain. Whether using the ICE to charge your battery is expensive or not will of course depend on the cost of fuel and the cost of electricity. But there are plenty of series-hybrid vehicles on the market so it's clearly not a stupid idea. And during the recent energy crisis the cost of electricity actually meant that my 1.8 Corolla Hybrid was cheaper to run than your PHEV so perhaps at that time using your ICE to charge your battery would also have been cheaper 😉
  20. Snap!! I do it all the time too. From what I have read, I believe you are right. (since the system stops looking for the key after a short while) 🤣🤣

    Elections

Farage was the only one who talked any sense to them!! Sadly, you need to be rude to force them to listen to sense!!
  23. Car cannibals stripping the cars for chop shops, repairs to damaged vehicles, etc, due to parts shortages. Last year the Yaris, Fiesta, Corsa and Clio were all likely candidates. This type of crime is increasing.

    Elections

Oh that's easy to explain! (why they are all so "well behaved") It's because they are all in a nice gravy train with mega perks alongside their bloated pay packet and so they are happy to simply rubber stamp approval to anything the commission put forward for voting on!!
  25. Actually, having just used the built-in NAV for the first time in anger (as a try out) I am sort of changing my mind a bit towards it. If you zoom the map right in (and yes, it remembers between power cycles) and change the compass to direction of travel instead of constant North, it works quite well; albeit without displaying buildings or terrain, and, the turns in the HUD work well too!
