    Ceramic Coating

Me and my lady got new cars at the same time. She has hers coated because she has to park under trees, so lots of sap and some very regular birds. When I'm there I also park similarly. When the cars are washed, there is no difference; difficult with both. Maybe the spray I apply, but that is rare because I'm lazy.

Tyre wear and replacement Mk 4

I've got Continentals on my Mk 4 (original equipment) and in view of the comments about my tread wear (I've got a bit of time yet) they've done pretty well so far for me at 20,000 miles. They were fitted as original equipment on my car before last - a VW Up! - and I never replaced them and changed the car after about 35,000 miles. They are expensive though as has been said: in my quick trawl round tyre fitters online they're IRO £120-130 supplied and fitted for the 195/55 R16 the Design takes. Does anyone have an answer to my supplementary question asked: to those who have had replacement tyres fitted to their Mk 4 - what mileage did this occur at? Thanks!
  4. they will be looking for a long time, ask them to find the aux belt, tensioner and water pump they may want to put up a wanted poster for the starter motor too 🤪 has Bper's account been taken over by an AI bot recently @Mike Gray your battery is screwed get a new one, if it is ultra flat it will not take a jump start ps. All UK mk4 Yaris and Yaris grumpies are 1.5 hybrid

    Ceramic Coating

I have had something similar to this for years following a tip on a car detailing website: Pet Hair Dryer (eBay link) Much easier to use than a leaf blower, especially getting the water out of mirrors and door handles - we know how annoying that can be, and less likely to bash the car. (I don't use the heat though, just cold blow with the conical nozzle.) There are loads on Amazon and eBay.

    12v and usb in boot

Thanks Big_D, just what I thought about the sockets. Pity they are not connected. Glad you've had the side covers. Thought ours was an odd ball! All others I've seen have the open plastic storage. Think the covers tidy the boot up and keep stuff in place. Peter
  7. Its not the new cars that are the problem. Its the many older cars and Trucks that will not have the system. Cant imagine this being implemented widely in the Haulage or Aggregate Tipper lorry industries. Who round my way cause the most accidents and fatalities. There have been a number of studies saying that recommended stopping distances are inaccurate for modern cars. This is true but… If your car stops on a penny at 3m , what about the 2005 aggregate lorry behind you carrying 15 tones of sand ?

    Aygo Ecu ground location ?

you will not hear the internal relays click as they are solid-state relays before this issue started did you fill up with fuel? bad fuel or you put diesel in it - would make sense as you have no codes a bad crank sensor will also cause the same issue and may not throw a code

    Identifying part

you will not find new parts online just used parts, it will be dealer-only as the car is in current production and it's only been out for a few years found it, its the radiator air defector correct part number is 16691-0Q030
  10. As I have said before, my previous car was a ford puma, the traffic sign recognition was linked to the speedometer and, when it worked it was good, but was very hit and miss, most of the time it failed to see the traffic sign at all, the Toyota system works a lot better and only occasionally gets it wrong, if these systems can be made to work properly then I don’t see much of a problem having it fitted to all new cars..

Auto headlights - Corolla TS 2024

Andre, Have a good read of the handbook re auto high beam. The lighting stalk has to be in the right position for it to work. I believe the 2024 Corolla is different to earlier years. I don't use AHB as it doesn't work all that well but the latest models have an improved system that forum members report is much better.
  13. "Is this technology going to be able to deal with mph/kph changes - such as when we take our cars into the EU?" I took mine to Europe last year. Set the displays to Km everything worked "Although not advisable to blindly believe, in my car the satnav changes the limit automatically on screen. Also, in the MFD panel, the speed limit is shown as a miniature road sign icon, and changes to red if the limit is exceeded. I think the two are synchronised but I am not sure." My Satnav on Android Auto displays the limit but it is definitely not synchronised. If I use the Smart Connect display the limit is not displayed except in Specs Zones. Then my actual speed is displayed too. This speed is different from that on the MFD. It might be an average 'in zone' speed. "Some while ago, on an urban road close to where we live, the satnav suddenly changed the permissible limit from 30mph to 70mph. The only explanation that sounded plausible is that the smaller, road sign icon was picked up from a nearby wagon’s tailgate. So, the question is, does the technology recognise a road sign regardless of the size of that sign?" Who knows. "On the subject of kph, I am most disappointed with the speedometer of my 2021 C-HR. The kph print on the dial is tiny. I can visually relate the mph readings to kph from memory, but the dial arrangement reflects badly on Toyota. For example, our daughter’s BMW X3 does not have a needle pointing the speed, but has the actual speed shown in the form of a single digital figure. And this can be manually changed from mph to kph at the flick of a switch. For the driver, the speed being attained is immediately clear and obvious." I use the digital speed read out, especially as i found the Yaris Cross pointer was broad and imprecise compared to my earlier Corolla. I agree with Cyker that to recognition is wrong to often and will be a real PITA with the new warning system. How long does it nag you? A few beeps I could tolerate. If it is like the seat belt nagger I can see real issues. Will we see cars doing below 40 on dual carriageways and liable to being trampled by trucks?

    Ceramic Coating

Hence my comment about requiring a fair bit of care to look after properly. Eastern European hand-wash 6 times a year (guaranteed to destroy a ceramic coating) and a once a year polish is more my style. Horses for courses I guess.
  15. That's a new one on me. I didn't know the Yaris Cross had an alternator.

    Ceramic Coating

I've had 3 of my last 4 cars ceramic coated and I could definitely notice the difference on how easy they are to clean - the next one is also being done. I use a spray foam followed by a spray on rinse, drying with a couple of microfiber clothes - one on its own seem to not fully dry the car - and this definitely mustn't be done on a sunny day, otherwise it does leave water marks. I've also heard that it's best to dry the car with some form of blower, as I don't have anything suitable I suppose I could always use my hairdryer 🤔
  17. Bob is right, charge the battery not just an hour but at least overnight. "A short journey" and "5 minutes" does not cut it. Toyota recommend it should be in Ready mode for an hour a week. When it has actually been flat you need rather more than an hour to bring the charge up. Although we have said an hour accumulated time I have found that 6 or more trips (on/off cycles) adding up to 60 minutes is no good as the frequent cycles deplete the battery. As a minimum I would suggest 3x20 or 2x30 as a sustaining charge. For recovery you need much longer.

In my car, the infortainment display is huge and readily readable, compared to the speedometer dial which is relatively small, difficult to read in strong sunlight, and partly obscured by the steering wheel. When it comes to the fact that essential instruments need to be immediately readable in milli-seconds, I would sat that manufacturers have not got their priorities right, and the safety organisations are also at fault in not spotting this.

    Ceramic Coating

I would be scared of hitting the car with mine. I got some double side microfiber cloths, 1ft x 2ft from Temu. At first I wasn't sure but when used on the large water droplets soon got saturated and I was amazed how much water it held. The droplets left now were very small and the second cloth removed those. Well pleased. If you think you can manage a bigger cloth they do them up to bonnet size too😀. I do find with a 1x2 you need to avoid touching the ground.
  20. Hi Mike, hopefully it's something simple like the battery needs charging. However it may also be caused by other issues so its worth being aware. An old or week battery can cause multiple problems so test and replace the battery. Its possible that something might be draining the battery while the car is off and could be a parasitic draw. Loose or corroded battery terminals are another possibility so clean and secure the battery connections. The brake and power steering warnings may be due to low voltage from the battery problems. I would test the battery.Check and clean all electrical connections.Scan for error codes with an OBD scanner. If these steps don't resolve the issues, take the car to a mechanic or Toyota dealership so they can identify the issue.Hope this helps
  21. Smart charge system might be a problem, if your car has that.
  22. Thanks. will try using a charger
  23. Hello everyone, I'm looking for some advice. I've got an Avensis 2.0 VVTI 2006 with a 1AZ-FSE engine. It's got 258.000 kms on it. When accelerating it feels quite slow and sluggish. Also it shocks a little when accelerating. More noticeable when cold. Vibrates in lower rpms. So far I have cleaned the throttle body, changed air filter & changed spark plugs. I'm thinking that maybe a ignition coil has gone bad. I'm looking at the coils and it seems to me that maybe the coil on cylinder 1 (and maybe cylinder 4) might be going bad. The rubber on the inside of the coil is also quite brown and the rubber feels quite worn out. With a little hair fracture on the tip of the rubber. Could someone give me advice or help me? Thanks! 24. Charge the battery using a charger or longer ride (hour or longer). The battery is either flat or damaged. Another possibility - one of the car components doesn't go to sleep and constantly draws current
  25. Bper

    Missing component under bonnet.

Hi Andrew, you mentioned that you purchased the car knowing that it doesn't have a working AC. If the dealer was clear in their description, then it is your responsibility to pay for any costs to reinstate a working AC system. I would ask why you purchased the car knowing this unless you were prepared to accept the potential costs involved. If you purchased the car at a very low price, it may have been reasonable with the knowledge of the additional costs required to fix it. However, if the compressor and other components need replacement, any savings may well be wiped out.
  26. I use an adapter via the rear CD changer port. All functions work through the steering controls and I play my music mainly from USB memory sticks. My car is the later T27, but adapters were designed to work with the T25 CD radio. The only audio unit you could have issues with is the Nav version! The sound quality is as good as the quality of the MP3. There are lots of adapters and some like the ones I use have Bluetooth, that again work via the steering controls. Cheaper ones are USB only. Definitely avoid cheap FM units which have poor sound quality and no direct control from the car stereo or steering controls! https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/tutorials/article/50-how-to-add-usb-adapter-to-avensis-t27-with-w53828-cd-stereo/
