    Ceramic Coating

According to their instructions, Polar Blast , spray on with foam gun, leave for 10 mins, don't let it dry and wash it thoroughly off, the Polar Seal you again use the foam gun, douse it all over the car, but try and avoid windscreen and then thoroughly rinse and microfiber dry. I did forget that in between these two, I use Autoglym Polar Wash shampoo, again apply with foam gun, adjitate with a mitten or sponge and rinse off. So in short ...I jet wash car to wash off loose dirt, foam gun on the Polar Blast, leave for 10 mins, rinse, apply Polar Wash Shampoo, use a mitt to adjitate, rinse, apply with foam gun a coating of the Polar Seal, rinse and dry off. If you think that's all too much, you can just use the Polar Wash shampoo and then the Polar Seal.

Recommendations for work to be done

First coolant change due at 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. If using Toyota Super Long Life coolant (pink) then due every 5 years/50,000 miles whichever occurs first. Regular oil changes would still be beneficial to save timing chain wear.
  8. I also recommend that route, the scenery is fantastic. I've also done it in winter... they don't grit that road for a reason 😱

    Excel vs GR Sport

Well, yes ... the 1.8 is built for economy, while the 2.0 is built for 'fun'. The 1.8 gets to 0-62 mph in 11.0 seconds; the 2.0 in 8.2 seconds. The 1.8 returns 53.3-57.6 mpg; the 2.0 returns 49.6-53.3 mpg (WLTP figures).

  11. Hi all, First time posting, currently have a 2015 Yaris 1.3 vvt excel, just reached over 100,000 miles and would like to know if there's anything that should be replaced on the car, outside of the usual full service? Heard reference to replacing vvt etc but no clairty on whether its necessary. Are regular oil changes necessary at this higher mileage? Thanks

    12v and usb in boot

Checked the output from the 12v and usb with engine on and nothing. Unscrewed the panel and there are wires there. Next step will be trying to see where they go and what they connect to. Peter
  13. You're behind the times. In our village a pair of wheelie bins have 30 stickers. At least they are correct. Have you seen Yellow Bird boxes yet?
  14. Albert, IIRC you need to go into settings via the steering wheel pad and search there. Cant remember quite where exactly. Amazing what you can find trying settings, on my phone I found a setting to answer automatically. Perfect as it then patches directly to my hearing aids. Downside is I don't see caller ID.

    Excel vs GR Sport

Thank you for the information Philip Is there much difference, mpg wise, between the 1.8L vs the 2.0L. The GR Sport I drove was the 2.0L and it was a lot nippier than my 1.8 Prius

New Ferry Rules For The Future

If yours isn't a PHEV it shouldn't be a concern unless you have gone downhill on the brakes for a couple of miles into the port. Not sure these regs are directed at conventional HEV's anyway. Even if it is a PHEV can't you just run the battery down completely before arrival at port by running in EV mode or something? Not sure how PHEV's work once away from a charging point so might be completely wrong😁

    Ceramic Coating

When I spent £350 on a 3 coat 3 year ceramic coating on my red metallic Aygo X, it was more prone to getting/seeing water white spot marks. I then had to get a pre conditioner white spot shampoo prior to washing the car. To be honest it was more work keeping the paintwork good after I got the coating applied, so for that reason I'll not get another one. I think it depends on the colour of your car to be honest. I just now use a good quality snow foam PH free shampoo followed by a waterproof sealant via my snow gun. I am now using on my YC Autoglym Polar Blast and then Autoglym Polar Seal and it's doing a pretty good job. If I want to, not sure yet, there's a Autoglym Ceramic Wax spray on buff off, but not tried that yet.
  24. I’ve now had my Yaris Cross design for 18 months and still think it’s the best car in my long line of car ownership. However, some of you may be aware that I posted a few comments last year in relation to the lack of lateral support down the left side of the drivers seat. At first, it wasn’t too bad but following a recent beautiful drive through the Dukes Pass between Aberfoyle and Loch Katrine in the Trossachs region, I felt as if I had just came off a roller coaster ride. The Dukes Pass is a very challenging road for drivers with its ultra tight bends, steep gradients and uneven cambers. The scenery is spectacular. Anyway, back to the subject of the drivers seat. My wife has no problems with the drivers seat and she has pointed out that my posture has changed and it’s not a design flaw with the seat support cushions. She’s half right, my posture has changed but the drivers seat lateral support cushions are not the same width. The right side is 6 inches wide but the left side is only 5 inches at their widest points as seen in the attached photo. Under normal driving conditions the seat is comfortable with good lumbar support but the Dukes Pass highlighted the lack of lateral support which caused me to slide across the left side of the seat. I was wondering if there are any back rests available which improves lateral support but had a quick look in Halfords to no avail. Also checked online but most of the back rests were designed to improve lumbar support which is not a problem for me. Has any other member experienced this problem and if so, what did you do to improve the seating position. I might also have a look in some of specialist mobility showrooms to see if they have anything on offer. Final point. I highly recommend a drive through the Dukes Pass but don’t do it in winter and never, ever do it in a Morris Marina.

New Ferry Rules For The Future

All our previous holidays in France have been by towing a caravan with a conventional diesel ICE vehicle. Now having retired from caravanning, our next French holiday (hopefully in 2025), and most probably with our present C-HR hybrid. Looking at the quoted regulations, my main concerns are the 40% maximum permitted charge in the hybrid battery, and the 50% maximum permitted amount of petrol in the tank. Our route is from Leicestershire to Portsmouth, and the practice was to start out with a full fuel tank, and then to top up at the Sutton Scotney Services on the A34, have a break, then onwards to the Portsmouth ferry terminal. The journey in France from St Malo to our holiday destination is only 18 miles. My problems with the hybrid will be: (1) How to judge my fuel consumption so as to arrive at the Portsmouth docks with no more than 50% petrol in the tank, and (2) how to establish a charge of no more than 40% in my hybrid battery. The fuel use is so frugal, compared to my previous ICE vehicles that I am not sure of what I would expect to use on the journey. Leicestershire-to-Portsmouth will be a first with my hybrid car for me. The latter, for me, is a problem. I do not know how to check this battery level - never having had the need to bother with that kind of info - and what could I do about it if the level was too high?
