DVSA maybe, but it will be a genuine consultation with all interested impartial organisations like that independent bastion of motoring opinion the AA. (TiC)

    Paranoid about used Yaris Hybrid

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay. I had the car serviced and I also went back a week later and got one of the mechanics to drive it. At the service the guy at the front desk said the shaking is because the engine is constantly transitioning between combustion and electric and that is why I feel it more when I'm at the end of the 'ECO' zone. The mechanic said it is the EGR that does it. He also drove it like a madman so I don't know what he could've caught during the drive. So basically for the both of them this is normal. I think that I could accept the fact that it is normal for this car and that overall the car is not as smooth as I would expect but it baffles me that, if this is indeed normal, there is basically no one reporting it on forums etc.. so I'm still a little bit unsure. Generally speaking my perception now is that this model, not mine specifically, is not that great. There is the shaking, the kick whenever the engine starts, random 'plastic' vibrations inside the cockpit. Not to speak of the !Removed! stability control that kicks in over minor bumps and extends the braking zone by a lot. This is probably the worst thing of all. It is not pleasant at all. I'm still on the 'convinced' side about Toyota and hybrids but I would not buy this car again.

If any consultation occurs, it will be by DVSA, as per normal practice.
  5. I've bought an Android radio and I'm facing two issues that aren't working. I was wondering if people here have experience with this and how I can fix it. I have a 2014 Auris 2 (hybrid sports touring). Previously, it had a Touch and Go 1 installed with an original rearview camera. However, now when I put it in reverse, nothing happens. Also, not all buttons on the steering wheel are working. Volume + and -, mute, and answering and rejecting calls work. You can manually set these with the radio by selecting the button on the screen and the button on the steering wheel. Thus, you can configure which button does what. But buttons for skipping forward or backward and the OK button are not recognized. Also there is no electric information screen anymore. Are there people who have managed to get their original rearview camera working? I did receive a separate camera with cables, but I want to use the original camera. This is the wiring diagram: https://ae02.alicdn.com/kf/S237fa7f3c77940bd86d9291c134d8547l.jpg This is an overview of the camera (which I don't want to use): https://ae02.alicdn.com/kf/S734a89f9de724e48a04a16f3eb3683d2M.jpg Also, I didn't receive a CANbus module. I asked about this beforehand. The seller said I didn't need it. I'm not exactly sure what that module does because the rest of the unit works, and some buttons on the steering wheel do work. Transition zone shaking

Sorry for the delay. I responded to you in the private message. For anyone reading I'm going to update on my post. As for the Auris: I drove it recently and only if you pay careful attention and know what to look for you can feel some of this vibrations. The general experience is totally different. In my Yaris 90% of the times the engine switches from electric to combustion it gives you a 'kick', in the Auris is 99% of the times imperceptible. It is completely another car.

Has the air quality improved in London? There has been a 99 per cent reduction in the number of hours when NO2 concentrations exceeded the UK's hourly limit since 2016 – dropping from 4,130 hours in 2016, to just 22 hours in 2023. London's air quality is now on track to meet UK legal limits by next year – 184 years earlier than previously projected. ..9 Mar 2024

    Speedo inaccuracy

Legally in the EU/UK the indicated speed shown on a speedometer must never be less than the actual speed, i.e. it should not be possible to inadvertently speed because of an incorrect speedometer reading. Additionally in the UK, the indicated speed must not be more than 110 percent of the true speed plus 4 km/h (2.5 mph) at specified test speeds. or all actual speeds between 25 mph and 70 mph (or the vehicles' maximum speed if it is lower than this), the indicated speed must not exceed 110% of the actual speed, plus 6.25 mph. For example, if the vehicle is actually traveling at 50 mph, the speedometer must not show more than 61.25 mph or less than 50 mph. So what are you judging the speedometer against? The speed shown by GPS is an average speed over a given number of points - so although it may be more accurate than a speedometer, it isn't the true speed. If considering a change of tyres, you need to check what effect the change will have on the speedometer, and using a tyre size calculator should help you avoid making your speedometer under-read (illegal) and possibly reduce the over read. Eg: https://www.oponeo.co.uk/tools/tyre-size-calculator

But who is your MP going to consult - his reflection in the bathroom mirror, or will the general public be given a referendum on the matter?
  12. Hi would fitting slightly bigger tyres resolve this problem currently running 225/45/17 would it also increase the ride quality car always feels a little fidgety

    "Smart"?

In they last few months alone, the amount of sleeze that has been revealed in government circles makes me wonder how shocked and disillusioned we would all be if that which we don’t know was ever given the light of day.

    RAV4.5 Remote Climate?

Thanks Bper, I haven’t been able to remote start either. I guess the information I received about MY2021 having remote start was incorrect. A shame really, but it is a good car. Thanks for your help.

    12v battery maintenance, issues, etc.

I note that battery issues seem to have reduced now that the weather is warmer. Be interesting to see how 12 volt brick gets on when it's 25 deg C and ac gets turned on.

    Reversing Camera

Hi Tim, I guess it's a problem many have as manufacturers haven't all adopted the Mercedes and VW way. You could try hydrophobic coatings available specifically designed for camera lenses. These coatings create a thin layer that repels water, helping to keep the lens clear even in rainy conditions. You can find these coatings at camera supply stores or online but how effective they are on muddy conditions etc not sure. A microfiber cloth can work but who wants to get out the car at night or when it's raining. The chances are you would get more mud on the carpets etc getting out to wipe them then what was on the camara lens. Hope this helps a bit.
  22. This may well have been covered elsewhere and I apologise if that is the case. I assume that although the car recognises speed signs it does not ( unlike VW) change the cruise control set point automatically? Is this the case? Why is there a green rectangle around the speed limit indicator, I this confirmation that your set point does not match the speed limit? Also, whilst on the subject, my understanding that due to EU legislation the speed limit warning is reset to on whenever you restart, great safety feature as you stare down and scroll through menus looking to turn it off. Also I like the visual only warning but this gets reset as well and you cannot deselect that whilst driving. P.S. I seem to remember leaving the EU?

At the moment, every file in the Protected and Video folders is write protected. I don't suppose it matters that much as when the card is full it will overwrite the oldest files

    Avens is 2012 2.2d

Hi Ajeel, its possible a couple of issues could cause these problems a faulty wheel speed sensor, this sensor transmits data on individual wheel speed to the car's computer (ECU). A malfunctioning sensor can send erratic signals causing the fluctuations and trigger warning lights. The temporary disappearance of the problem when braking could be due to the sensor providing more consistent data at lower speeds. Other Possibilities could be a ABS module malfunction, Less likely, but a faulty ABS module could disrupt communication with the wheel speed sensors and cause similar symptoms.Loose electrical connection, this is also a possibility, but the braking related disappearance suggests a sensor issue might be more likely. If you are looking to fix this yourself then I would consider replacing the wheel speed sensor, If it confirms a faulty sensor, replacing it is a common repair for this issue on 2013 Avensis model. Also try to observe the braking feel, does the brake pedal feel normal or spongy? A spongy pedal could indicate a separate brake system issue. Watch the warning lights, do they come on immediately after accelerating, or is there a delay. This information might help to diagnose the problem.Hope this helps.

What is the mileage ?? when you got the car and what is the mileage now? it's the mk1 that has had the bulk of the MMT issues, I would get a second opinion asap

    Reversing Camera

Has anyone found a solution to the reversing camera getting covered in muck and rain which effectively renders it useless in bad weather especially if one drives on muddy roads? What, drive a 4x4 on muddy roads, surely not. Mercedes and VW have solved this by hiding the camera behind a flap that also wipes the lens when you go into reverse. Result is a perfect view. The issue also applies to a lesser extent with the front and side cameras on the underside of the mirrors. I have tried using a water repelling spray which helps, but reversing in the dark on a wet night.....

    2.0 hybrid judder /missfire

It would be nice to know what exactly fails... Seals... Injector nozzle clogged... Electronics of injector... If we knew what part had failed we maybe could mitigate it somehow but as it stands nobody knows or isn't saying... Is it possible ecu frying the injector.. Maybe a software update could cure it who knows 🤔🤔🤔🤔
