  2. I started with the two dial display, pretty much as it was delivered, but have settled with one dial, 'smart' appearance, with the dial showing the hybrid indicator as you have. I don't think that I ever look at an analogue speedo on cars that have a digital version. I would usually want the tacho displayed but I figured that there wasn't much point on a car that doesn't have any fixed gears. I agree about the map. Pressing 'OK' makes it slightly bigger but it still isn't much use. So I leave 'Settings' in the centre display because it requires less button presses to get to the things that I like to switch off or modify before driving! I have the adaptive cruise display on the right where you have the energy monitor. I generally leave the map showing on the large central screen but I have it set up so that I can switch to the energy monitor with one button press. I don't take much notice of it, because it doesn't actually change how I drive the car, but it amuses passengers!

    It had to go

A few weeks ago we got in my wife's Yaris to go somewhere and it wouldn’t start, the 12 volt battery didn’t have enough charge to power the hybrid system so we called out Toyota Assist. The AA arrived quickly and plugged a power pack into the connection and it started. The mechanic said that the hybrids need to be used on a regular basis to keep the 12 volt battery charged. As it was a second car it didn't get used very much at all. I bought a power pack to keep in the boot ready, it happened again after the car hadn’t been used for a couple of days and a couple more times after that, when we got back after a weeks holiday it was totally flat, I had to use the emergency key to open the door but of course I couldn’t open the boot to get the power pack so I had to climb over the front seat to reach the back seat and fold the seat down so that I could get it that way. Anyway, to cut a long story short, my wife had enough and we went to the Mazda dealer for a test drive in a petrol Mazda 2 and she ordered one. The Yaris isn’t a year old until the end of June and had only done 1,400. I have seen loads of complaints on the this forum about this problem so it’s a common issue, I wish I had looked into this issue before. Also the auto lights are just so annoying, they come on in bright sun if you go past the shadows of trees, then off, back on in shadow….ad infinitum! We picked up the Mazda on Monday and left the Yaris there, glad to see the back of it.

    Shock absorbers/ Suspension?

Not at all. I said "do have comparable figures for previous models, or indeed competitor models? Do you have projections from Toyota for the split between private and fleet/business customers? Without both of those you are just guessing it was a miscalculation." You have the actual split figures, but you do not have Toyota's original projections, and you do not have figures for competitors' models, so you are simply not in a position to state whether or not it is a miscalculation. Thinking about it some more, it is the original projections or a definitive statement from Toyota stating it was a miscalculation that would show it was a miscalculation. Anything else is a guess!

    Camry 2005 vibrations

As how you describe the situation it might be from the engine. , misfire or pre ignition. You need to double check that, first to try is premium fuel or additives on the fuel. Another possibility are brakes. If any of the callipers got stuck will cause drag on the pads against the disc and cause vibrations and overheating. You need to check temperatures on each wheel after driving for some time. Engine mounts- this is another one that can be bad. Inner drive shafts - this is also possible source of vibrations.

    Attaching aux battery charger

You would find you can feed the cable around the door. I would recommend the TOP as you are less likely to forget or trip if out the bottom.

    Snow socks or chains

I used chains in Cyprus. In UK you can infrequently need assistance but it is rare. In the Lincolnshire flat lands on 30 years I needed chains twice. The first, around 1986/7 drifting snow left snow about a foot deep, at one part the snow plough left a cutting about 8 feet high. The next event was probably around 2004. Unlike the first, this left us with packed snow on the roads for 2-3 weeks. I was now using socks. If you are prepared then you can cope in the unlikely event of bad conditions. If you are not prepared then you may cancel or abort trips needlessly. PS, I am toying with the idea of getting those nylon tie-wrap style chains for emergency use.

    Cheap Avensis Estate ?

But Passat estate it’s a classic motor and probably one if not the best in class. Yours likely to be 1.9tdi pd engine, these can run for ever with regular maintenance. Even if you drive not much or not so often if the area you live in allow diesel cars of older age if me I will keep the Passat for as long as I can.
  10. I switch between the one dial and two dial setup, but leave the drcc display in the middle as the map option is so small. it would be nice if we could have a decent map in the centre of the screen like VW/etc.

    Attaching aux battery charger

That's a brilliant point as it'd be more convenient to leave a window open a crack for cable than having the bonnet up

    Excel vs Premiere Edition

Yes, and often these are the best one to get. If me I will definitely get the premier edition if available. If not I will excel or gr .

    Attaching aux battery charger

What you say is true to a point. If you are only planning to connect your CTEK charger after you find your battery is flat, then the under bonnet option is the only practicable one. This is where you would also connect a jumper booster pack. As you mentioned 'wired for convenience' fitting a tail to the battery for a regular charge, or even continuous charge, makes sense. If the tail was accessible from inside the car then opening the boot would not be required.
  14. Most oil catalogs give wrong suggestions on oils and lubricants for the cars. Best is the car owners manual, oil filler cap, or oem repair manual. Anything else can mislead. For engine you can use any brand motor oil as long as is exact spec match, however for transmission fluid best practice is only original fluid, and same for the coolant.

New Ferry Rules For The Future

.. or the ferry company insurers?
  16. It seems normal. Perhaps not exactly all the way down but yes the pedal can travel far down. In some other models like Auris hybrid when press fully the brake pedal the Esc lights come on to show you had activated the brake hold function. , not sure if Yaris is the same. If your brakes function normally, no warning lights on on dashboard no need to worry about. 👍

Swapping RAV4 for a Yaris Cross

Good choice. The Yaris cross is very much a reduced size rav4 and you will enjoy it as much as it’s bigger sister. 🚙👌

    Hi all. New member

Hi Ian, welcome lots of good advice when you need it and always welcome when you give it. Make sure your phone is compatible with the cars Bluetooth system. Older car Bluetooth systems might not support all the features of newer phones. Sometimes re-pairing your phone can resolve this. Delete the current pairing from both the cars system and your phone, then pair them again. Make sure your phones software is up to date. Make sure your cars audio system is set to the correct Bluetooth mode. Some systems have separate modes for phone calls and media playback.Check the audio settings on both your phone and the cars system. Check the media audio is on your phone for the Bluetooth connection. If only the numbers are showing, it might be that your contacts have not been transferred.Look for an option in your cars Bluetooth settings to download or sync contacts.Hope this helps.
  21. another viable option to head to the nearest dealer and ask them to fix this for you. you bought brand new car, they owe you this much

    Snow socks or chains

Absolutely no need any of these and as mentioned if your all seasons tyres can’t get you out of situation in the winter means there’s no point of driving on them. , just use standard summer tyres. Chains are the best in extreme situations, but those conditions hardly ever happens anywhere in uk where you gonna need chains or socks. All season tyres is all you need. 👌

    Hybrid system check won’t run

Hi and welcome. When you went second time and hybrid system check couldn’t be started what the mechanics said about it, what was the reason and what were the next steps, waiting again another km travelling? What were the fault codes and why needed a reset beforehand the first failed test?
  24. Thanks, this reply I was waiting for but from another member. Thank you anyway, you were faster this time 😅👌

    Non Starter...

Hey Crickleymal, appreciate you taking the time to reply with hidden fault that could be costly and possibly never found, I'll bear this in mind also in the coming weeks investigation, best regards Keith

    Non Starter...

Thanks dad's taxi, yeah the terminals were tight, the positive one a little fiddly to access the nut, but ok. I'll check alternator, maybe photograph later, I'm sure that was replaced almost a few days to a year ago. Apologies for late reply, looking after sick relative, so real busy, car is working ok so far, as Flash said earlier though, it might until alternator or starter motor just fails. Appreciate your reply, best regards Keith
