  2. Hi all, In preparation for my import arriving, I have started to get some 'rough idea' quotes from insurer's. The cheapest quotes I'm getting so far are around the £1000 mark, despite having 4 years no claims to use on this vehicle and 20+ years on my other car. Please can anybody recommend any more reasonably priced insurers to me, based on the experience with imported cars? FYI - I've tried adrian flux already, as well as direct line, quote me happy and the well-known comparison sites Cheers

    Canm8 cruise control

its 6 wires and an obd2 plug/2 wires for CAN - CanM8 is just a rebranded module from Lindgaard · Pedersen A/S https://lpdk.com/support_compatibility.php you can use it with the factory speed limiter stalk https://www.a-a.de/e-cruise-can-p-p-toyota-aygo-1-0-2018-mit-oe-limiter-hebel-mit-start-stop.html
  4. Well that's something. Seems like Toyota missed a trick here. I know from past cars that a dying battery is noticeable before it becomes a problem. But it seems like for me and other hybrid Corolla owners we could be heading for a problem with little or no warning. I suppose I'd better start planning to replace my 12v battery just as a precaution since it's now over five years old 😞

    New Yaris vs Honda Jazz

I would go with Excel specification as the brochure lists all the toys (apart from HUD) that I’m used to In the Jazz it would be Advance spec I am tempted by the Toyota 10 year warranty as the maximum with the Honda is only 5. My local Toyota dealer is also excellent; dealt with them for years Once I’ve driven both I’ll check back here with my thoughts

    New Yaris vs Honda Jazz

Top spec Yaris excel or premier otherwise there will be loss of useful extras, push button start to begin with. Auto dim mirror, and more. It’s a smaller car but it is the best in class imo. Honda not bad, jazz is the favourite car of the more mature generations. I live next to Honda dealer and I have a good view on that matter. Both cars are good. Good luck

    Automatic gearbox

that all depends on the gearbox, cvt gearboxes are freely available (K311) have you had the gearbox diagnosed properly if so what is the issue, i assume you have done the basics like checking the fluid level, has it ever had a fluid and filter change ? tbh these boxes don't go wrong unless they haven't been serviced and/or are in the 150-200k miles range, if its been used as a cab the gearbox is done for

    Suble ticking noise

Hi all, First post here. I have a 2008 150k 2.5l d4d Hiace. UK spec. It has what I can only describe as a ticking noise that comes at 1500-2000rpm under no load. Seems to be to be around the passenger side of the engine (that's as you look in the engine bay off to the right hand side. Just sounds bad. Fine at idle, and I can't hear anything around 2500rpm. Not sure where to start, it's not a belt or pulley, it's not the turbo by the looks of where the noise is originating. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Adam

    2.0 hybrid judder /missfire

Coolers seems to me made from the same or similar materials., stainless steel. Perhaps it’s not from the cooler but how injectors works, dry fuel ( high ethanol content) kills these and they can’t close fully and let fuel drip into the chambers when not in use.
  12. I don’t think there are any warnings on display about low 12v battery. I sign for low voltage or weak battery can be the interior lights, if you keep your door open at dark and let the car depressurised the brake system the interior lights will dim at exactly this moment and then get back to normal. Another sign is central locking, if it’s slow on unlocking locking also will point to weak battery and then lost of keyless lock unlock for example.

    New Yaris vs Honda Jazz

The current Yaris is the 'Mk4', or XP210. It originally came out the end of 2021 (And referred to as the MY21) and had some more significant upgrades to the current one which just came out (The MY24). There were some minor facelifts and changes with the MY21 - e.g. some options were lost like the HUD, but it had upgraded infotainment and more online connectivity that my earlier one doesn't have, but the MY24's most easily distinguished because it has a completely different dashboard, updated infotainment and the 130HP drivetrain (Albeit only on the GR Sport and Premiere specs). I will say the fit and finish was better on the Jazz (Some of the panel gaps and fitment/alignment on my Mk4 are... well lets just say it's not doing the french manufacturing stereotype any favours...!), but I felt the mechanical robustness was stronger in the Yaris and it gave me more confidence it'll keep working longer.

    Automatic gearbox

Hi Johel,I t might be possible to fit a foreign Toyota Avensis 1.8 petrol automatic gearbox to a UK model, but there are some potential problems to consider. There could be variations between the gearboxes used in foreign and UK models, even if the engines are seemingly the same. This could involve mounting points, wiring looms or even control units. You would need to carefully compare the part numbers of the gearboxes to ensure compatibility. There's is also a chance the emission control systems on the foreign gearbox might not be compatible with UK regulations. This could lead to issues during MOT tests. The wiring loom that connects the gearbox to the car's electrical system might be different between foreign and UK models. It's advisable to stick with a gearbox that was designed for the UK market. This will help avoid these potential compatibility issues. If you're considering going ahead with a foreign gearbox, it's best to consult with a Toyota mechanic . They will be able to assess the specific gearboxes you have in mind and advise you on the feasibility of the swap. As for the car's computer, it's generally not recommended to swap engine computers between different regions. The ECU might be programmed to work with specific emission control systems and sensors that are present in the original region's model. Swapping it could lead to engine running issues or warning lights.Hope this helps.

New Yaris design 2024 photos here !

Enjoy! Make sure you take it for a good drive.... just to familiarize yourself with the car and totally not as an excuse just to hoon it around... I still love driving mine

    RAV4 or Across?

I was just going to post the exact same thing. While I have no problem with the Suzuki badge the warranty would swing it for me every time.
  21. Yeah there have been several anecdotes on here about that very thing - The word gorilla was used in one as I recall It's one reason I didn't like the paper element filter - The plastic housing for the filter cartridge on my Mk2, despite being quite beefy, was still fairly mangled, presumably from repeated slight over-tightening by services under the previous owner, and if the car hadn't had so many other problems I would have probably had to replace it eventually! With the spin-ons you don't have to care so much I still don't get why it's such a common problem - I was always told the filter should be hand-tightened and that was general knowledge for mechanics, so who are these people that are presumably air-gunning them on??

    New Yaris vs Honda Jazz

I will definitely drive both the Yaris (non Cross) and the Jazz The thing that tempted me with the Jazz was the perceived build quality and the amount of space inside The only time I’ve experienced a Yaris is having one as a courtesy car when mines been in for a service & MOT. Always thought it was great fun to drive Is the latest Yaris a completely different car compared to a MY23? If so when was it updated Thanks for all your support and comments, I really appreciate it

The Premiere Edition - AKA “Tony”

A lot of people and even companies keep using the words "polish" and "wax" interchangeably and it's really confusing!! I've always avoided using polishes on my cars - Polishes are basically abrasives and serve to make the paintwork very smooth and shiny by essentially sanding down the clear coat - This is why you shouldn't use them with ceramic coatings, as the ceramic coating is only nano-metres thick and will abrade away when polished. Waxes are much better/safer for use on a ceramic coat as they are just another kind of protective coating over the clear coat - Ceramic coatings serve a similar function and essentially function as very resilient wax (Wax will last maybe a month at best which is why it needs to be reapplied every time you wash the car - A really good thick ceramic coating will last years and are also much more chemical and scratch resistant). The trick is cleaning the car enough so that the no dirt gets trapped under the wax! (Or the Ceramic coat for that matter!)

    Automatic gearbox

Hi all, hope you're well. I would like to ask the question of, can I fit a foreign Toyota Avensis 1.8 petrol automatic gearbox to a UK model? (well the computer of the car except it?) Your help would be very much appreciated, and much needed. Many thanks.
