    Day time running lights ?

DRLs are designed to make other road users aware of your approaching vehicle - hence why only front lights are required.

    Day time running lights ?

Sorry, can you clarify what you mean? DRLs are only supposed to be on at the front, no rear lights - Doesn't make total sense but that's what the law mandated, nothing to do with Toyota as they're just doing what they were ordered to do, same as all the other manufacturers. The auto lights are only designed to turn on your dipped beams and rear lights when it gets dark enough, but it will do both.
  4. Yes, I’ve had several other cars and the rears were wearing out quicker than the fronts - I believe some cars use the rear brakes for the cruise control braking and also the stability control to tighten up the cornering. my auris wore out the fronts first, I used to have to clean the rear disks on my auris by braking firmly in neutral every few weeks as normal braking wasn’t clearing them. the Corolla hasn’t required this.

    PHEV wheel corrosion

50% more miles than mine so maybe it'll happen on mine but it gets swapped in early September in any case. If I'd have bought the car and it happened I'd definitely pursue. Good look with the tour North of the wall.

    Day time running lights ?

I find it strange that the lights on auto are only on at the front not the rear.I know there is a position to turn to to active both together but it means having to turn them on and off when turning the engine off .Can the dealer set them so front and back come on and off automatically?

    Looking to buy a Corolla

Yep I believe the warranty for any serviceable part would’ve been voided. The 2nd owner only kept the car for around 10 months, covering approx 8000 miles. The listing price was £26k in March last year, now WBAC has valuation of £16.5k, so his loss is almost £10k, which is huge. He part-ex for a Seat Tarraco (which I could confirm due to private plate swaps), which makes me think a change of his circumstances may be a reason for him to bear a £10k loss on a not expensive car. Of course, your points are absolutely valid, hence my hesitant. Thanks for pointing out the problem with insurance, will pay attention when renewing insurance.

    My New Toy😄

"Ready Mode" is just hybrid/EV-speak for "On" i.e. brake pedal+start button

    PHEV economy observations

That would have been perfect. Some US owners of the R4P have used the traction battery to power their homes in California when the grid power goes off.

I need to read up on the "Ready Mode" mentioned a lot on the forum, but haven't a clue about it 🥺

    Looking to buy a Corolla

The 2nd owner part-ex it at the used car dealership for a Seat Tarraco, after keeping the Corolla for around 10 months.
  12. I'm having a 2020 1.8 Corolla and have always felt light vibrations in the accelerator pedal between 2000 and 3000 RPM only. Tried a demo car and felt pretty similar feeling. Have been told by the dealer that it is "normal" but I can not avoid to focus on that issue. Please let us know if any solution is found by your dealer, i would be very interested.

New 12V battery wanted (not maintenance free)

Thanks, My previous Prius (2009) had a maintenance free (sealed) battery, AGM type branded Toyota (made by Yuasa). So not sure why Toyota went backwards in terms of progress by fitting in 2016 batteries that could be topped up. There seem to be very few new car batteries of this type in 2024, so maintenace free seems to be easier option which is fine. I found the same Yuasa 012 battery that Halfords offer on sale cheaper here including postage: https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/yuasa/ybx5012/ Regards, John

    Elections

My experience with unions was back in the 1970s when I was an apprentice electrician. One of the sparks was a shop steward for the Union and I swear he called us out on strike more times a week then days we worked. They were pretty militant in those days.
  17. The first car I drove that had brake-by-wire was a 1934 MG PA. It had a cable to the drum brake on each wheel and no syncromesh on the gearbox. Really quite frightening because whether it stopped in a straight line depended on the tension of each cable.

    Is it eCVT or CVT

We have a lot of new Renault akana hybrid cars and new kia niro hybrids on our circuit... 50% have had gearbox issues.. We have 1 kia niro with 60,000 miles on it and it's in for its 3rd replacement gearbox(new 7 speed) not a good advertisement... And the Renaults gearbox just doesn't know what it's doing and throws in the towel within the first 10,000 miles.

    coolant in exhaust prius 2016

At least one person on here contacted Toyota and they paid for the part and he just had to pay for labour and ancillary items. As long as you have FTSH it could be worth a phone call.

And how many miles were covered in that time... 100,000...200,000.... Probably not. And that's the difference. 200,000 plus is not unusual.. It would be more unusual to have had a problem in that time.

I served my time as an apprentice at a BTH radar factory. Quite a number of women were employed in wiring the “trays” to form the looms for the radar cabinets. The long benches were covered in brown Admiralty Lino with wooden beading around the edges. Every Friday afternoon would be mainly used in waxing and polishing the benches (feminine driven, of course). Coming into work on a Monday morning, one was greeted with a powerful waft of polish, and it was quite pleasant.

    coolant in exhaust prius 2016

Toyota Prius 2017 full service history mileage 46000, having coolant loose issue. Contacted dealer they diagnosed its due to coolant leaking in heat exchanger. As this part is not under warranty so have to pay £1500 to replace the complete part.

Without a doubt, the Unions did a good job and the workforce needed them. It was unfortunate that they turned so militant and used the muscle of the masses to virtually cripple industry. It might have worked better if they could have become politically neutral - working in collaboration with whichever party was in power. Although I was a member of an engineering union, I voted Conservative and withdrew from the political levy. One shop steward did try to force me into paying the levy, saying that my political views did not fit into Trades Union policy. I upset him by saying I hadn’t realised that the unions were communists, and he did stop when his area representative told him to back off.
  24. Soft acceleration - The engine will run at the most efficient rpm (~2000rpm on my Yaris, can't remember for the Corolla) the whole time. Very quiet. Hard/Max acceleration - Engine will rev to the peak power rpm until the desired speed is achieved; Noisy.

    Looking to buy a Corolla

I guess Toyota wouldn't touch it simply because it missed a service so has no/complicated manufacturer warranty. Maybe the Corolla was traded in because the owner was annoyed at having a dead 12V battery due to their low usage, and the Seat was the nicest "normal" car they could afford that suited their low usage pattern. Or they weren't able to renew insurance - a few LV customers on here have had trouble with their hybrids... Or maybe it was crash damaged, badly repaired, and the owner wanted shot of it ASAP!
