    2.0 hybrid judder /missfire

My previous Purecrap 130 powered Peugeot 308 T9 which was petrol directed injected & turbo charged had a engine ecu software update to solve a known LSPI issue. The specification of the spark plugs on earlier turbocharged versions of the Purecrap was also changed ( different heat rang of spark plug ) as the spark plugs where suffering from ceramic breakup.

I assume whatever part corroded was made of aluminium - Chlorine munches through aluminium very readily. Not much you can do about that. It's all part of the drive to make cars lighter and using aluminium parts instead of steel is the most common way of doing that. But there just shouldn't be chlorine in fuel full stop, so they would never have anticipated that as a design requirement any more than they'd design the system to resist strong radiation or super murder petrol cockroaches or something similarly random. I doubt chain wear will be an issue - Toyota D4D engines run easily into the high 100k miles before they even need checking whether new chain is needed, and diesel puts several orders of magnitude more soot into the oil than any petrol could; If they can survive 100k+ miles of that, they'll survive the piddly amount of soot a petrol engine produces! I'm not sure how LSPI is a factor with a direct injection engine - There shouldn't be any fuel in the cylinder during the compression stroke so what is igniting exactly?
  5. Hopefully a glitch, the Toyota connected services Web page said the app has got some problems, hopefully an update is being worked on.

    MY24 Yaris Cross

Ordered mid February, Design trim in Metallic grey. I’m still none the wiser on what features or gadgets it has however! Pretty much a blind purchase

  9. Being the owner of an older Corolla still on its original battery - do we get a warning if/when the battery starts to become weak? On non-hybrids slow engine turnover at start was a good clue. Do we get something appearing on the dashboard advising us that it's time to replace it?

    New Yaris vs Honda Jazz

And for us that was, unfortunately, a total show-stopper. High(ish) dash and low seat = miserable view out and overall experience for passenger (unless they have a very long body....). Other factor (which might not affect others, obviously) is that at the time I wanted a towbar fitted (for a bike rack) and although it was shown on the accessories list, the dealership staff we dealt with were adamant that it didn't exist or couldn't be fitted and thus wouldn't commit to specifying it on any order (sigh....)

    Auris - Check hybrid system

Hi, this can be triggered by numerous reasons but most common are hybrid battery dead or hybrids battery cooling fan blocked by dirt. First checks you need to do is to check hybrid battery cooling fan grill located somewhere near the rear seat, open and clean and if necessary replace the filter if you have any. If too dirty inside the air ducks you will need to open and clean the fan and ducts too.

    RAV4 or Across?

The Across is a RAV4 PHEV with a different badge and slightly different face. Mechanically they are the identical and both are built on the same production line. One has a Suzuki badge, the other a Toyota badge and 10 year Relax warranty and I rather suspect that answers your question.

    RAV4 or Across?

I have am close to buying a new or nearly new RAV4, but my attention was caught by the Suzuki Across. The new prices seem to be fairly comparable, for a similar spec, but for a year old example, the Suzuki seems to offer much better value. In other words, it seems to depreciate faster. Does anyone have any thoughts on why this should be?

It's a shame though that they made the cooler out of material that can be corroded by chlorine - the old coolers were made out of more robust materials I believe?

Interesting video especially about the timing chain wear, will see if that becomes an issue on dynamic force engines! The vid said LSPI mainly happens during low RPM, high load. As far as I know (I'm not a tech!) the hybrid dynamic force engine would be using battery+port injectors during those conditions so LSPI shouldn't happen often. I'll definitely be looking into the liqui moly flush, sounds like it may be useful! Did you have to clean your old Prius EGR/intake system at all during the 400k miles?

  27. Sounds like a glitch in the software as a few folk have had it happen to them 🤷‍♂️
