  2. I would tend to side with the dealer / Toyota - otherwise you'd have to accept the possibility that the fault is with eON vestel and Octopus zappi-type chargers - they are selling you chargers that are not compatible with your bZ4X. But I'd do so very gently - I wouldn't want to go to war over the matter ... 😉 It is clear that we are still at the "early adopter" stage with EVs and charging systems and there are sufficient mature standards in place to be confident that all the parts will work together. With your petrol analogy, there are very clear standards for both fuel and engine makers so the issue of incompatibility doesn't arise, and it wouldn't be too hard to determine who was at fault if it did. Tesla got it right in 'pioneer' space by delivery both the car and the charger (to Tesla propriety standards). Anyhow, good luck and all the best in getting to a satisfactory resolution ... 🤞

    Fire risk with electric vehicles

Not quite the same thing, Mike. Life policies are a choice - car insurance is compulsory. Plus, car insurers apply theoretical risks that are applied to drivers without any knowledge of the abilities of said drivers. In newsletters from comparison websites, there is frequent mention of “risks” that insurers consider, and a number of them are clearly excuses for money-making. Like the one that says a driver who starts to get quotes at the 30 day period is a nervous driver. Or the use of a garage being hazardous. Because the car might get scratched during entry or exiting. All wild supposition. So, back to my suggestion of a refund if no claim is made during the active 12 months of a car policy. The cost of the premium is charged against supposed incapabilities of a driver to take due care to avoid an accident, and without any knowledge concerning a driver’s personality (unless a driver has a previous record). Therefore, on such a basis, is it not logical that, where an insurer has applied charges based upon what “might” happen, then a refund should be made when the supposition was wrong? Under normal circumstances I would agree that this a refund shouldn’t be necessary, but we are not in normal circumstances - we are quite aware that car insurers are ripping us off with lame excuses. Most drivers need the use of their vehicles, and unreasonable premiums are a threat to the mobility of drivers (and their dependent families). Take my own case - Confused.com have come up with a projection of £1,900 pounds for my next premium for my 2021 Toyota C-HR Hybrid. My driving record - one fault claim in over 70 years, and that was a slow speed caravan manoeuvre on a seething M-way services. And the scrape was between two caravans, with no motor vehicles damaged. That was in 2011 - some 13 years ago. There must be thousands of drivers who show similar low risk, but are being brutally ripped off by these unscrupulous insurers.

    Confusion

They don't. I had two blowouts which both gave an Orange 134psi for the flats. When the spare was fitted no pressure was shown for the other tyres. Once the new tyres were fitted there was no warning but the new tyres gave large over pressure readings. However when the car was new all tyres showed high over pressure. When I reset the pressures all tyres gave low pressure warning. Resetting was a PITA. Next time I shall play dumb, hand the car back and have another cup of free coffee while they fix it.

    Toyota service plan

It's really a matter of preference. If you take out a service plan you pay for your servicing in advance by monthly instalment at today's prices so are protected against inflation. Price increases due to inflation over the past three years run to around 20% - so a service plan taken out three years ago would likely have saved around 20% on service costs. Conversely, you could have put money away each month to save up for your servicing, earning interest on your savings to offset against higher service costs. Over the same period, it is highly unlikely that interest earned would have matched inflation. Who knows what tomorrow may bring ... As Roy says, the plan is not transferrable, but the unused value can be transferred to a new plan or be refunded, so you don't lose out significantly.
  7. For economy Toyota recommended dropping your speed by 5 mph on a climb. If you don't you will hit the peak at the set speed and 'balloon' as you crest the rise. As you exceed the set speed you will get an audio warning. If that set speed was the speed limit that also burble. I find the best way is a quick Cancel before the peak, let the speed bleed off slightly, then Resume allowing the car to accelerate on HV alone.

    Dead DA and dead battery

Although the staff in-store say they should not, I've just occasionally found that the bank-holiday-type discounts work in addition to the trade card discount. But, as I'm sure you know, the Halfords website is often quite 'clunky', some patience is needed - the website sometimes hangs even when used normally. On a similar note, the Halfords car-specific parts that get ordered-in, are actually sourced from ECP. Apparently this arrangement has existed for the last five years. Perhaps you knew. So, no longer a trawl (for the best prices) for parts at ECP, then CarParts4Less, now you should be looking at Halfords price as well. (Internal part numbers/pictures are all the same for those three, understandably). It's often worthwhile.
  9. My favourite was when a new one was installed to enable a right turn into a trading estate. Originally the major road was unobstructed. Entering the new mini rbt elicited rage from the others approaching the new markings and its give way sign. At least it has settled down now. Unlike your case, the exits were never blocked.
  10. We are off to the garage for a meeting shortly as we are attempting to give the car back. After the car has been taken in five times in the four months we have owned it, Toyota HQ via a technical case confirmed to the dealership on Wednesday that the BZ4X is incompataible with eON vestel chargers and Octopus zappi-type chargers. I haven't got a full copy of Toyota HQ's response (will ask for it today) but the gist of it is that Toyota believe there is a GDPR risk in the car talking to the charging unit via the cable, so it doesn't pass certain data over that is necessary to initiate the charge reliably. The garage are saying we need to fit a British Gas charger and not use many of the 'standard' features that utility providers offer, around scheduling at night etc - instead, control things in the MyToyota app. We are arguing with the dealership that this is a fault with the car - they are arguing it's merely a 'feature' and the car has no fault, so we have a final meeting today before potentially taking this to the ombudsman if we cannot resolve the issue. I believe this is a bigger issue than Toyota are making out and it is the lack of BZ4X on the road - and the lack of experience across the network with the car - that means these isolated cases aren't being joined together. Our garage found out that the eOn vestel chargers weren't compatible with the BZ4X 48 hours ago at the same time we did, rather than 12 months ago when they started selling the model. The analogy I would give is buying a petrol vehicle and experiencing rough running...only to be told several months after you bought it that the vehicle isn't compatible with fuel sold from Shell or Esso petrol stations. I feel this is pretty fundamental to the ownership experience: we have been completely stranded twice because of the car failing to charge and ours is failing to charge around 25% of the time - across three different locations, representing 100% of the places we charge the car (home, work, gym!). I would recommend speaking to your dealer and keep pushing this. I am happy to PM you details of our car as there is a technical case with Toyota that can be referenced. The BZ4X is a half-baked car with an appalling user experience, considering the charging issues and MyToyota issues combined. It's a shame as the car itself is nice to drive. Perhaps all of us with charging issues can work together to force Toyota to do something about this, rather than refusing to acknowledge a fault.

    Toyota service plan

Regardless of mileage you will need an annual service. I think the plan is terminated when you change cars and any balance refunded. Either way you don't lose.

    Toyota service plan

We have a 2024 RAV4 PHEV and are trying to understand if it’s worth taking out the Toyota service plan. We cover around 1500 miles/ year. Has anyone followed the increase in Toyota servicing costs over the past few years and if so, could you please give us an example? Also, if a service plan is taken out and we decided to change to another car, can the plan be transferred? Finally, If the plan is cancelled at any point , is a full refund given for the outstanding amount?

  14. Worse still are the double mini roundabouts - whilst still negotiating the first one, and having to watch out for a driver from the left ignoring you, you have to be also watching for a vehicle in the second one coming from your right. One double mini rbt that I hate is on the A390/A39 crossroads in Truro, Cornwall. Approaching these roundabouts from either the town centre or the A39 Falmouth road, it is an uphill incline. So from a stop/start position you need good acceleration to avoid stalling, but have to be ready to brake for vehicles coming from your right at the first roundabout and, at the same time, for vehicles coming from your left on the second roundabout - these vehicles from the left are likely to ignore you as you will be “on” the first roundabout, but milliseconds away from entering the second roundabout. Drivers coming up from market square (M&S, Tesco area)or from the direction of Falmouth, also climbing roads, are reluctant to loose speed to accommodate vehicles negotiating these roundabouts. Everyone on the forum must have similar experiences in their own areas, and their favourite destinations. P.S. Fed up with predictive text - as usual, had to sort text out before posting!

Thanks, I am sure I could have survived carrying the jumper battery in the back seat until BH, but I've ordered one yesterday from Tayna, arrives today.

    4wd issues

Jack, the grinding and low range engagement issue could be caused by a couple of problems. Its possible that worn internal components like gears or shift forks could be causing the problems in the transfer case. A misaligned or damaged linkage can sometimes mimic internal issues by preventing a clean shift. A couple of other issues whilst less likely should also be taken into consideration. The 4WD actuator, A faulty actuator wouldn't engage the front wheels in low range, explaining the lack of movement and the 4WD light not coming on.Vacuum lines and solenoids, Leaks or malfunctions could interrupt engagement.Wiring problems could explain the 4WD light malfunction, this is more associated with electronic systems.I would check the vacuum lines and electrical connections for damage.Hope this helps.

    Cheap Avensis Estate ?

Not sure about the V Matic, but not seen many issues cropping up here about them either. I have the manual 6 speed and I must say its the sweetest changing box I have ever come across. The T27 1.8 petrol isn't very 'torquey' when you are used to a diesel (as I was), took me a while to get used to it. But, exactly as you said earlier, a bit bland to drive, but, I know that if I want to drive from one end of the country to another tomorrow my Avensis will get me there and back, no issues. The estate I have has good load space, but, get one with air-con (usually works) and cruise control.

    Dead DA and dead battery

Halfords own-brand of batteries are made for them by Yuasa, fwiw. I have had this confirmed, over time, by two different staff and a member of Yuasa technical support. If you did choose a Halfords battery, sometimes there are online-only discounts for 'collection in store', these tend to happen around bank holidays though.

    Bluetooth Connection on Yaris

I dont have issues on my other Toyota, same toyota Touch2 but the Yaris will only connect if I give thumbprint in to phone, then music comes on. Been through phone a million times, driving me bonkers lol Phone is fine can accept calls etc. I am wondering whether its an issue with Touch 2 allowed access to Youtube Music. Again my other car has no issues. I do think its a samsung issue
