2003 Jbl System

The JBL Premium Stereo sytem with 6 CD changer in my 2003 4-Runner Sport has poor sound quality. Most sound comes from the front center speaker and has little bass with the bass turned all the way to 5. This vehilce has 7 Speakers including a sub woofer, but has poor dynamic range.

Anybody have similar experiences, if so what was done about it. The Toyota dealer says the system is normal.

Take it to a specialist ICE shop. Autoquip's a good bet, as they do fitting as well. If you listed the system you have we could help you a lot more.

If the bass is suffering then check the sub wire connections. Then check that the amp is turned on and check that the output is turned up (about 1/3 of the way is usually enough). Finally check that the cut-off setting is not too low (some music bass can have a higher frequency than you think).

other than this i cant say anything unless i know what exactly is in your system <_<

I had a similar problem in my previous car. Turned out to be a bad earth connection on the amp.

Sytem is all Toyota jaxx, it's their optional 6CD JBL premium sound system that's all I can tell you. I don't know the model #.

CarinaRacer, Whats an ICE shop, we don't have an Autoquip in Denver. I take it from your reply that the amp is seperate from the actual head unit in the dash, so where would the amp be? I've looked under the seats, but the amp is not there. Guess it could either be in the dash or perhaps in the rear of the vehicle.

Ae111sr, when I find the amp I'll check the ground (earth) connection, thanks.

Sorry pple im a lazy typer, ICE = In car entertainment. I dont know much about denver but there should be an electronics store or some audio centre near by or in an out of town shoppin centre.

My amp is seperate, screwed to the fron face of the sub box, the sub facing upwards into the parcel shelf. It is wired directly to the sub. The amp is wired to the car Battery via a 60 fuse and heavy duty cable set running down through the carpet under the door sills. The head unit has its own internal amp so that you can actually get a high volume sound. The outputs for this are called pre-outs and are part of the wire loom in the ISO plug

In ref to the poor bass performance im judging from the replys that you do not have a seperate external amp to run Speakers?
