How To Change The Head Unit Of A Carina

I was hoping to change the standard head unit fitted to my 1996 1.8 Carina E GS. I've read for other Toyota models part of the panel has to be pulled off but I would like to make sure before I start ripping off buttons and the like. Can anyone give me any advice or point me towards a guide applicable for this model.

Thanks

As far as i'm aware you have to take the centre stack out and remove it from behind. You can attach you new HU with the existing bracket, 2 screws in each side of the new HU

there are four clips holding the central binaccle on, you need to ease these out using a screwdriver etc (cover the end with insulatind tape first so you don;t scratch anything). Once that is removed, reach behind it and release the four conector plugs, clock, hazards etc. Once that is done just unsrew the stereo and remove the two wiring plugs and the ariel flylead. I would recomend buying a harness adapter (mine cost a tenner from halfords). Refit the whole thing back together (opposite of removal), but check everthing works before you do!
