success!! flushed out the matrix yesterday evening with just water and this morning going to work i actually had to turn DOWN the heat setting, simple simple job to do! thanks for that post by the way morgie

pe nothing other than water and hooked it up to the garden hose and flushed through bothways for around 2 minutes

No problem, glad it helped and glad you have heat!!

In general it seems that the problem is down to the build up of some form of (lime)scale in the matrix. For some, perhaps like yours it's not too caked on, so a flush of water (at a safe pressure) is enough. For others, like mine, using something like Mr Muscle to break down the scale seemed to help. There are probably much more suitable liquids/cleaners to use that are aimed at removing scale, but in my experience I used the Mr Muscle.
