Aftermarket Sunroof

Hello again,

My Yaris (Mk1 '00 MY) which I have posted much about at this stage has an aftermarket sunroof that has been fitted from new. It is leaking worse than usual at the moment due to a failed securing screw which I have illustrated in pictures attached with this post.

The sunroof itself is a unit which I am sure is common enough and has been fitted to many cars. The screw I need looks to be a specific type which has a rubber covering on top and I am just posting on here to see if anyone would know how I would go about obtaining it?

I would be appreciative of any knowledge or advice that people have for me.

Regards,

PurvesGrundy

They basically saw a hole in your roof and stick two hinges, a rubber seal and some glass in the gap :D

Never been a fan of after-market ones for these sorts of reasons tho' (It's a bugger since I like sunroofs but the only Yarisususeses that have them are the Mk1 T-Spirit and CDX :crybaby:)

If you don't know any places near you that you could ask, I think you may have to google for one. Any idea what make/model of sunroof is fitted? Any identifying codes on the bolts?

Failing that, might be able to bodge it with some all-weather silicone sealant :D

Yes, it is manufactured by a company called 'Inalfa'. I've actually decided I'm going to e-mail one of their distributors in the UK and maybe see if I can get the part I need posted over.

They don't seem to have any presence anymore in the republic of Ireland.

I have already done that with a leak at the rear.

The sunroof was in the car when I got it and has been a bundle of trouble.

If you can't get the part, take the car to a sunroof installer and see if they can fit a larger size sunroof in the car for you. Hopefully would outlast the car before it started leaking again

Have you tried to extract the broken Retension Bolt from the Plastic Housing?

Is the Bolt made of plastic or metal?

If Plastic heat up the tip of an old slotted screwdriver of the right size, and embed it in the broken stud end, (in the top housing)

when plastic has set cold, unscrew with the embedded screwdriver.

If metal bolt, carefully drill the aforementioned broken stud, and extract with an "Easy Out"

You should then be in a position to refit the existing Plastic Housings, using a replacement Bolt of the Right size, using suitable Rubber, or Plastic Seals, and Sealant,

Hope this helps, Good Luck.

A DIY bodge job then? *shudders* reminds me of something my old man would do!

Leave it up to the professionals I say! I've got a sunroof on mine :D. I never use it and its a wind one. My ol' Honda had one too but was electric and that was more fun. Didn't use it much either though.
