Hi

I bought a hiace Camper from 78 with a 12R engine. I've replaced the head gasket and cleaned the cooling system, adjusted the valve clearance etc.

It seems to working quite well. My max speed is about 95 km/hr but he drives only 6 km on 1 liter of petrol. This seems quite bad. I've no idea wether this is normal. Does anyone have a hiace camper, and is this normal?

I checked the spark plugs (new ones) and after 170 km of driving 2 sparkplugs (nr 1 and 4) were completely black. The other two were nice and coffee coloured. Any idea? I never had to add oil. So I guess the cilinders are fine.

Where abouts are you located? That does seem quite thirsty, have you checked the carb settings?

I do quite like the model you have.
