Loose "shield" Half Way Down Exhaust

Hi Everyone

Heard a rattling when driving the car, especially when taking off in 1st. Looked under the car 10 mins ago to find a bolt gone on a shield or sleeve that goes around the exhaust.

This has a few holes cut in it, so must have to be ligned up?

I can just about reach it lying on the floor.

What is this? Any info appreciated.

The loose part will be the heat shield around the front box. Needs a new bolt, or otherwise making solid again.

If working under the car yourself, take all necessary precautions in supporting the vehicle - eg ramps PLUS axle stands. Do not rely on any one means of support, and NEVER rely on single jack of any type.

As above, the wee shield around the cat will give a random rattle and at its worst at, 2500RPM(was on mine anyway). It can be a bit of a mare to remove old bolts. I fixed mine with a few small tack welds to secure it together. 5 min job with the right gear

My local Mr. T binned mine when it came adrift. Been fine since.

Or you can just undo the nuts and fasten it back on with repair washers. I've done a few including early 4.3s.
