2003 2.0 D-4D… Is It A Timing Belt Or Timing Chain? Bought Avensis Wit

The Avensis I recently bought from Toyota dealership (one owner from
new) had its timing belt/chain replaced at 97k miles. Mileage is now at 100k.
There's a sticker on the belt cover, SKF brand, replaced at 97k in
November 2012. That's one of the reasons I asked in the first place. Is it a
timing belt or a timing chain?

Bought the avensis with no service history book - what can I do? The oil was
changed by the seller before collection. Oil filter looks new.

Unfortunately, the one thing I forgot to ask about (and I kick myself for
not doing this) was the service history book. After I got home I realised it
was not there. I phoned the salesperson and he told me he would chase up the
previous owner and find out what they'd done with it.

Does Toyota keep records of services? Will my local Toyota dealer be able to
find any service records for it on their systems?

Thanks,

Craig.

I know the franchises do but I don't know if they share them with each other and/or Toyota (e.g. Jemca will have records of services I've done with them but Hills and Lindop probably don't)

2003 d4d diesel is belt driven (1cd-ftv).

Just give them a call no harm in asking.

definitely a belt ... but 97k is either really early, or really late! (I recently did my second change @ 120k).

Perhaps the car had some other work in the engine which required a belt removal... would explain the odd interval ... might be worth checking receipts to find out if there is any 'history' of some problem.
