New Exhaust For Rav4 Xt-R 5 Door 2005 Model

I have a Rav 4 XT-R 2005 petrol 2.0l 5 door, the centre exhaust system pipe has snapped in two due to corrosion. I have looked at new centre section online seem to only be those with silencer. I have been told mine has catalytic converter and sensor on this section I am having difficulty sorcing one toyota going to be £700+.

Has anyone had experience of replacing theirs?

Does it need cat in centre as it has at front also?

Has anyone had one replaced in NE12 area or near here, as can't travel far with noise!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Phil

I had the large middle section you mention go on my 2006 diesel and this like yours is a dealer only part . Cost well over £1000 ..

I had a stainless one made but the resonance and drumming meant it was replaced within a month with a genuine part...

Thanks for the reply, might have to bite the bullet and get dealer part, I was thinking of geting s steel one made but sounds like you tried that and it did not work.

The box in the centre section is a cat and it's questionable if this is absolutely necessary. Don't know anyone in Newcastle but if you could get to Darlington - Exhaust A Fix can repair the old section or make a new one in either stainless or mild steel - www.exhaustafix.co.uk . This will be far cheaper than a dealer part and noise performance should be comparable to the original unit.

Bosal the aftermarket exhaust manufacturer were looking at production of exhausts for these cars so worth trying there ??? There is one cat on the diesel centre section not sure what you have on a petrol car ...

Hi Phil,

I had a similar issue with my 2004 xt3 this time last year and after weighing up the options, I decided to go for a custom stainless exhaust made up by a local specialist.

Due to the poor condition of the complete exhaust system on my RAV it was going to cost around £1100 to replace using genuine Toyota parts.

The specialist exhaust guy took £625 for a complete stainless system including CAT, a boss for the O2 sensor and twin tail pipe rear silencer.

If you decide to go down this route make sure that you shop around and do a bit of research if you can, as the workmanship can vary dramatically with these "specialists",

Going down the Toyota road guarantee's quality and a hassle free experience but at a cost.

I'm not sure if you can get away without the CAT due to MOT emissions etc.

Hope this helps.

thanks again for the replies, still trawling web for companies to make exhaust.

Did you find the stainless steel one ok for resonance and drumming?

It sounds fine to me Phil. I think that the grade of steel is as important as the quality of the construction hence the need to do a bit of research.

The guy that fabricated mine was recommended by another member on the forum (Big Kev), and his work is top notch.

If they are any good then they should be able to advise regarding noise levels and drumming.

thanks for all the information, looking at the two options, I think I will have to bite bullet and have dealer part fitted can't source company in the area tp make one quick need car in next few days for longer trips. My brother in law works at Jennings Fod and can get from Toyota and fit with staff discount for just under £700, I figure getting one made is going to be within a few hundred pounds of this.

The darlington company looked good but to far to drive with snapped exhaust, would take a day to get there have work and come back, can get courtesy car from Jennings and still take kids out as its school holdays.

Thanks again guys very helpful in making descision.

Stil driving Rav with smile on face.

Regards

Phil
