Insurers access the Motor Insurance Database, also used by DVLA and Police, to check vehicles - so describing a car as one thing when it is registered as another will be uncovered at some stage - probably when a policy is taken out.

You need to access insurers who will insure imports - eg. (without recommendation) Adrian Flux, Mark Richards, Brentacre, etc, etc.
